I have never had a Hallowe'en that didn't necessitate mittens, never mind snowpants, parka, boots...going as Hermione today I wore nylons, two pairs of wool knee socks, thick boxers, the skirt, long sleeved shirt, buttoned shirt, sweater, mitts, and my robe. And I was still really cold.

The only reason I'd ever want to live in the states so that I could wear a Hallowe'en costume the way it's meant to be worn!

Those costumes really are the best costumes I've ever seen! My 3 year old would not even put his on, boy am I glad I decided not to make one this year.

Your boys are adorable!

Trust me, Karlie, we're not used to this sort of weather on Halloween! But my boys have been so lucky - for the last three years we've had a warm spell right on Halloween. It's been great getting to see all the kids' costumes unobscured by giant coats and mittens and stuff. Hooray for good Halloween weather!

posted by alison on october 31, 2005

Those really are the BEST costumes. They are too adorable.

Congrats on having the best dressed kids this Halloween!

Them's some adorable Things you've got there, Miss Alison! And they look as though they could cause as much trouble as the originals!

I am lost for words! I wish your boys could have knocked at my door! They look AMAZING! And those grins. WOW! Congratulations, Alison, two things very well done!!!

Just as I expected! They look terrific! If they had come to my door looking like that I would have emptied my candy bowl into their pumpkins. Too cute!

I think you're right, Beth, there's really no point in trying to top these. As a Halloween costume-maker, I believe I've peaked!

Adorable! Those costumes are perfect, and the joy on their faces says it all.

----------
As Halloween night crept along to the end,
nothing disturbed the doorways but a breeze or a wind.

The treats were checked to be fit for consumption
so all little boys and girls could have something.

When it seemed there were no more tricks to be done,
Thing 2 leaned over and said to Thing 1…

When mothers were chosen in that place where this happens,
we were the luckiest chaps out of dozens and dozens!

Good for you, Ann. I have to admit that one reason why I didn't go the store-bought t-shirt + fabric paint route is that I'm just not that crafty!

I'm with Dena -- the too much candy picture IS Halloween. Completely timeless.

The things looked just dandy,
All ready to get some candy.

When they knocked on the door
Grown-ups couldn't resist a roar,
Or the urge to hand over the store.

Thing 1 & Thing 2 were glad to have their pick,
But sad that they could play no trick.
Oh well, I guess that's why they ate themselves sick!

Seriously, if the 11-yr-olds were complimenting them, those costumes are the ultimate in coolness. But the happy smiles on the boys' faces say it all! Fabulous!!

posted by Carrie on november 1, 2005

Your Things will remember these costumes! My 13 year old still remembers the year I made him a Ninja Turtle costume (out of a discarded kiddie pool and some yard goods -- couldn't afford the boughten kind), and he was about your boys' age.

posted by Judy on november 1, 2005

You really outdid yourself on those costumes. Really! :-) And they even fit well, which Halloween costumes so seldom do.

I hope they'll wear those sweaters after the holiday, too. :-)
