go go, kimono

At least the baby sweater is progressing nicely. I've finished the front panels now and attached them to the back at the shoulders (three needle bind off, my favorite!). The pattern calls for the sleeves to be knitted down from the shoulder, so I'll have the joy of picking up stitches out of tightly-knit chenille. Woo hoo. I've already developed a serious callus on my right index finger from trying to get the stitches off the needle. The yarn may be soft, but working with it is a bit tough. I'm really liking the result though! Only, now that I see it here, I'm thinking that the decreases on the left front didn't quite come out looking like the original. Maybe I'll try undoing the seam and redoing the top quarter of that panel again over the weekend.

The baby sweater looks very cute, and I can't see the decrease problem at all. As for picking up stitches in chenille, an aborted try at doing an *Aran* in cotton chenille sent me screaming away from the stuff for a long, long time....so I wish you good luck! :-)
Alison, is that pattern from a book or is it sold individually? Looks great. Like the color.
Melissa, as far as I know the kimono pattern is only in Minnies. I haven't seen it separately. I took a peek at the patterns listed on Jil Eaton's site minnowknits and didn't see it listed there either, although a couple of the others from the book are there.
I have a pattern something like that from Phildar's Layette catalog 2001, done in Lambswool and without i-cord ties. I've been *dying* to do it! I love how yours looks and I think I'll be a copycat and try my own (when I get to it, and someday I will) in a softer yarn, too.
sounds like that cotton yarn i am using on the january socks. the final product may be soft but the yarn is very stiff and annoying to work with! and i agree -- i don't see what you're talking about with the decreases, i think it looks perfectly adorable, nothing weird at all !
alison - I have enjoyed reading your blog for a few months now and must credit you with inspiring me to embrace this great craft since I knit my first stitch in November. As for the kimono decreases, I know what you mean. My MIL knitted this for my daughter last summer and her right side, like yours, differs from the one photographed in the book. Thanks for publishing such an informative, well organized visual blog - and for sharing your fabulous projects. I also particularly enjoyed your New Year's fiber adventure through the Boston area since I learned about other LYS's nearby. Thanks again.
Nanna says: leave the damn thing alone, or I'll smack your wrist. The decreases look fine & the owner of the kimono won't care or will regularly sick all over it & change its shape for you. Once you block it will look excellent. Love ya love :-))
