sunday, already
I've been so excited about my knitting projects this week, that I forgot to take time out to do some sewing. Thus, the summery projects haven't progressed that much since I pinned out the pattern pieces last week. All I've done is cut out the pieces and baste the side seams of the skirt together to check the fit.

I made it to the fabric store, though. I picked up this fun Butterick pattern, which I saw on pknitty's blog (love that name!). Originally I wanted to knit the Cleo top from the summer Knitty. I swatched a lot of yarns from my stash but couldn't find anything that really worked at that gauge, so when I saw the sewing pattern, I thought, heck, I should just sew one. Now I have to buy some fabric for it. I have cotton prints in my stash, but the pattern calles for georgette. Do you think I could try it with cotton??
Finally, my best find at the fabric store was this ribbon, which will perfectly top off my tiny tank.

Love the crispness of the turquoise/white tiny tank yarn and the ribbon! Looks like a sherbet! :-)
ooo, that pattern is very fun! i definitely have to pick that one up! maybe i will actually do some sewing when i get to chicago! and in knitting news, score on the ribbon!
Since I've decided to also do the tiny top I've been looking for ribbon such as you've found. Where did you find it?
Love the sewing pattern. What is georgette?
Hi,
I had the same concern when I read that georgette was recommended. You shouldn't have a problem if the cotton fabric you are using is not too thick. I used cotton to make my top.
Absolutely try the cotton -- it'll be fine. Those words on the patterns are just guidelines. Maybe don't pick your most lightweight print, since georgette is a fabric with some body.
Meanwhile, Smooch report, arrgghhh: I did one side of neck last night, four eyelets worth, then ripped. They weren't lined up, the first two were too close together, and juggling all the actions on both sides is pretty rough. The only thing I did well was the slip-stitch edging. I'm good for one more try, but I may have to just adapt my own instructions that I can note and mirror on the other side. Who knew this would be such a challenge!
Shirley, I got the ribbon at my local Fabric Place. It's just a round satiny-y ribbon that was with the other trims and appliques.
Thanks Maggi and Phuong for your ideas on the cotton. I thought I might just try it - what the heck! Maggi what exactly do you mean by not using the most lightweight cotton? I should use something that feels on the heavier side?
I think I erred in the wrong direction, and thank Phuong for setting me straight -- georgette is light, so I'm still sure you'll be fine with your sweet cotton fabric.
