fickle filly

The phildar filly is starting to rethink her "summer top" knit-along. The summer's almost over and it seems silly to start something now in such a fine gauge (read - that will take a while to finish) that will only have short sleeves. But although this filly may be fickle, she's not disloyal, so she's hunted down a few other Phildar patterns that might do for the same yarn, different season. What do you think? The cropped rolled vest (very similar in style to the original plan, just more of a vest thing going on), the patterned vest (but with a more reasonable neckline, thank you very much), or this funky cardie (with some added fuzzy front panels, fun!)? Or should I simply stick with the original pattern and wear it layered with other things (that might require losing the rolled edges)?

Don't forget, the Phidar filly is also planning on making a fabby little Phildar cardigan. The oh-so-yummy yarn arrived yesterday. Yee haw, giddy-up! Here's S checking out the new stash.

In the second picture, he's actually saying "wow". The kid has taste!

And there will definitely be another Phildar sweater or two in this filly's future. But I want to start the Phil - um, I mean fall - season off right, so I've got to figure out this knitalong thing first.

I'd stick to the original plan and just wear the top under your ribbie cardigan. Or how about making it with long sleeves?

Wow! Love the little multi color Phildar cardi. Can you tell me where you got the pattern and the yarn, pretty please? And Stefan's curls are to die for!

I'd stick with the original plan. You could always wear it layered over a turtleneck instead of under something. That way you wouldn't lose the rolled edges. Of your alternate choices, I like the patterned vest best.

Funky cardie all the way! (Given that I'm into the sport of spectator knitting and all.)

I vote Funky cardi too!

I knew you girls would like that funny, fuzzy, funky cardie. This is beginning to sound like a dare!

Kristine, the pattern was posted for free in french at the Phildar website (www.phildar.fr), but they seem to have updated it with a new pattern from the fall magazine. It's from their Summer Evasion catalog, which I don't see listed on their site anymore. They are way too current, if you ask me!

I got my magazine and yarn in trade with my knitbuddy Becky from fluffa. You may be able to buy the pattern translation from her. For the yarn you might try knit 'n tyme a Canadian online store. She has some Phildar yarns and pattern books and I've heard she can special order as well. You could substitute the yarns too. Rowan's cotton glace might be nice and their lurex shimmer could work for the shiny yarn.

It's hard being a Phildar filly if you don't live in France, so good luck! :0)

This is really late (and I was really slow) but I finished the cream colored Smooch for my daughter--it looked lovely on her, and I got it done en route to returning her to college. The knit-along (my first) was fun. Thanks!

I'm with you on winding up the summer knitting. It it were me, I'd put the whole thing in stash and start on the rainbow-y cardie that just arrived. New yarn is the best yarn!

fun-kie,fun-kie,fun-kie!
yep, sounds like a dare to me, too!
I STILL want to know what the secret Teddy
is.....

My vote is for the funky cardi, which is just what you need to be the hippest momma on the block.

Alison,

Thanks! They are wayyyy to current. I do have a few Phildar books from Knit n' Tyme, but they don't seem to have that one....then again, it isn't like I don't have loads to do!

You ask, we vote... Funky cardi all the way! (With the added hope that the fuzzy front panels be in an easy breezy gauge to keep the projects coming!) Otherwise, stick to the orignial - as a tankin' summer proves, sometimes it's nice not to have to do sleeves, so short can be good.

i vote for the funky cardie! i love the fuzzy furry panels.

Hello Alison,

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents.

I've wanted to make this cardigan ever since I saw it on Anna's site. I searched for a good substitue yarn but didn't really come up with one that had all the right colors.

I decided to go ahead and order the Licorne and Plaisance yarn from www.phildar.be. This site is in French so it wasn't too difficult for me to place the order. I sent my e-mail in French and she answered in English. She only accepts payment via wire transfer, which can be quite expensive. I received the yarn this week. It's so beautiful.

There is another online source for Phildar yarn that I just found. It is www.breiweb.nl. The site is in Dutch but the owner will respond to e-mails in English. She does ship to the US and payment is easy since she accepts PayPal. It looks like she is selling all the yarn for this pattern and the pink hook and eye fastener. I just ordered the Sunset yarn and fastener from her. All the yarns are under Garnes. The cardigan can be found under Home > Breien > Phildar patronen > Phildar dames patronen. It is listed as "390-014 Gestreept vest"

I don't have my blog up yet but hope to make this cardigan my first blog project.

Excellent info, Melinda! I've used the pictures on that Dutch site as a resource for a long time, but never tried ordering for them. I'm glad to hear that it's fairly easy to deal with them. Especially, the PayPal part - now that's convenient! I guess they have the pattern books in Dutch though, but being able to get your hands on the yarn is awesome. Thanks for letting us all know about it!

Awwww he's so precious :) and he looks SO excited about the new stash! he's a keeper for sure *lol*
As for the knitting the summer top ... do what you want to do!! if you don't want to knit it, don't! you could just "host" the knit-along ... you don't have to do it yourself ... do you?

hi, I saw you have linked some pages from my site but I want you to tell that those pages are old and will dissapear very soon. You can find the new pages on our site www.breiweb.nl
we will be very helpful to you with Phildar yarns. Please come back and look at our site.

best regards, Nathalie

I live in Canada and am looking for a back issue Phildar crochet book, it is Summer 2001. I have found it in French, but need it in English.

Posted by: Heather Bouchard at December 23, 2003 7:07 PM

I am urgently in need of an older English Phildar book of men's sweaters that has a pull-over sweater on the back page in blocks of 2 shades of blue and a soft green. One small portion of the left breast has a kind of checker-board pattern in the blues. Help!!! I borrowed this book and have lost it! Thanks.
