a little calmer
I've finally started my Christmas knitting and am feeling a little better about my chances of getting it all done in time. Here's the first few inches of the Calmer lace cap.

I'm using Rowan's Calmer yarn as called for in the pattern. I really like the pattern and the yarn is an absolute dream! It has a wonderful hand and is just a joy to knit.
(Laura, you and I have got to make that Calmer sweater!)

Nice work so far, Alison! Where is that pattern from? To answer your question, yes, 2 down, more Arrgggh! to go...
Why, it's in Rowan's The Calmer Collection, of course.
Beautiful shade of Calmer you picked! I do love that knit hat...you're inspiring me to knit one up, too.
You really need to make yourself one!
OK, so I re-re-REstarted the Calmer cap on #7s last night and I'm still having issues. First issue: I never have the correct amount of stitches left at the end of the "k2tog, yo"/"yo, k2tog" repeats. Pattern says there should be one stitch, and I always have two. Hmph.
Second issue: the lace is still "closed", rather than open and airy like yours. I've never had a problem with tight knitting before, so what the heck? The only thing I might be doing different from you is the fourth row of the repeat -- are you doing SSK or knitting into the back of the stitches?
I'm putting this project aside until I can seek some help!
Hi Shannon, I'm so sorry that you're having problems with the lace cap. :( I too had one extra stitch on row1 - so there's yo, K2tog, then two stitches. I did another yo then K1, K1. That gives me a nice K1 selvedge for seaming later. For Row3, I use a sort of 1/2 twisted decrease described here. But any left-slanting decrease should work. Maybe you're just pulling your yarn overs too tight when you go to knit the next stitch(es)????
Looks great! Makes me want to do another.
