and the hats just keep on coming

Introducing Alison's Beginner's Hat. A whole knitting class packed into a simple hat with a rolled brim, followed by some ribbing and finally crown shaping. And the adventurous beginner or color nut (like me) can add some stripes for fun!

This is a Christmas gift for my sister-in-law who likes green and obviously has a bigger head than me. So that's one more Christmas gift done.

Wait, two more presents done. I finished the double knit hat for my brother-in-law as well! Hey, it's reversible! I wanted this hat to be really warm, so in addition to doing it double-knit, I decided to knit the Cascade 220 (leftovers from the boys' mutssjaals!) at a much smaller gauge. Hubby says that if his brother doesn't like it, he'll be happy to give it a home on his head. Awww.

(Free patterns to come!)

I love both of those hats Alison, but especially the double knit one. I think that would make a fantastic gift for a new born, pink one side and blue the other! Can't wait for the free patterns so that I can try it myself.

Those hats are fabulous! The rolled edge and ribbing on the beginner hat make for a very cute (and original) design.

I love that Beginner Hat! Can't wait for the pattern, I think that might just be the hat to go with the mittens I've been doing for my Yule gifts! Yippee!

The double knit hat is sweet too, but I don't think I could handle learning double-knitting right now -- maybe next year.

By the way, I've updated my Christmas count and have had lots of Christmas updates from others: Sandy, Kimberly, Kristine, Claudia (who's all done!), Debi, Melanie, Christina.... So check out their blogs and give them a cheer. How's your holiday knitting coming along??

LOVE the hats, I'll look forward to seeing the free patterns. I may even do one for Christmas! (Two more gifts now done here)

I'm interested in the lace hat, or at least a pointer to where I could find the pattern. It looks pretty snazzy. But I like the simple green and yellow too. I love variations on rolled brim hats.

The reversible hat is absolutely fabulous - It's like two presents in one! You always have amazing looking projects.

Yay, Brenda. Love the Christmas colored progress bars on your site, too!

Stonering, the lace cap is from Rowan's book The Calmer Collection. The actual lace pattern is a basic yarn-over, decrease pattern which you might be able to find in a stitch pattern library somewhere. It's very similar to this and this.

Fun hats, Alison! You are so creative! I always get inspired visiting your blog!

I want to join the holiday gift-along! I have 8 out of 20 completed.

I LOVE both of those hats, Alison. I agree with Claudia on the originality of the beginner one. Who woulda thunk to add ribbing AFTER the roll brim? YOU!!!!!

Hats are great! Thanks for sharing the patterns. What stitch pattern did you use for the white hat? Very cool looking!

ooooh free patterns to come!!! Thanks for sharing with us! :)

Susan, love the name of your blog! Nancy, I'll add you to the list. Good luck with the remaining 12 projects - I hope they're small!

Sylvia, are you referring to the beige lace cap? See my earlier comment today for details on that one. It's so much fun to knit!

I do like the double knit hat a lot. I'm 2 gifts up on the list, and should have another ton of them done after this weekend! :)

Can anyone recomend a good site to learn how to double knit. Thanks all
