peace punk

Make socks not war.

Finished hubby's peace fleece socks. He slipped them on as soon as I was done. They're perfect for keeping his feet warm on our cold floor.

For anyone interested in making similar socks, I used Peace Fleece and US7 needles. I follow the numbers from a Reynolds pattern called Ragg Socks, written for Candide yarn at 4 st/in. I do 1x1 ribbing for the top inch and then switch to 3x1 ribbing for the leg. I like to continue the 3x1 ribbing over the top of the foot as well. To line this up well, I find it's best to start the 3x1 ribbing with 1knit and 1purl (the round will end with 2knits). That way the split for the heel is more centered over the ribbing than if you started with 3knits.

Happy peaceful sock knitting, man.

Snaps to hubby for wearing rustic yarn socks. Candide and peace fleece are not the softest yarns in the world. He must have some tough feet! :) The socks look great! and what better compliment could he have given but to slip them right on and consistently wear them? Good hubby!
Peace out!
~snaps are a movie reference. Legally blonde 2, have you seen it?~

Beautiful sox! I just ordered PF for an Einstein-style jacket...will I be scratchin'?

Oh, I love wool socks on cold floors....... And those look terrific. Rustic is good.

The top photo would make a fun notecard.

I have made socks with Peace Fleece. They were very comfortable but did not hold out as long as the wool/nylon socks have.

Oooh! How many skeins did it take you for his socks? I have this lovely skein from Melissa -- can you get a pair of socks out of one skein of worsted?

So here's the scoop:

-Hubby wears regular socks under his big bulky handknitted socks, cause even though he's never cold enough to wear a sweater, apparently his feet can never be warm enough

-I would highly recommend the peace fleece to others for outerwear, but not so much for something that is going to be directly against the skin

-The socks took about 1 1/2 skeins of peace fleece for man's size 11, about 8" long to the heel, so depending on your foot size and desired sock length, you might be able to get away with one skein.

-Thanks Melissa for the heads up on the wearability of the peace fleece. I expect to be darning most of our socks. If I'm not willing to use real sock yarn or use a carry-along thread (I couldn't find one in the right color to match the peace fleece), then it's something I've got to expect, right?
