catching up is hard to do
With the NYC trip and the Easter holiday, it seems like I've been out of the knitalong loop for ages! Here are a few things that I can't miss pointing out...
The spring fling is going strong. Julia has kicked off her own blog with her finished star sweater. Jackie has finished her awesome eyelet skirt from last summer's Knitty. And Melanie has completed her beautiful salsa verde tank. Way to bring the spring, ladies!
Elsewhere in knitalong-land, Loobylou has started up a Tricot-along!

I'm so in! I've got another Tricot in the works myself. How fun to have others to knit along with. And if any of you were thinking about knitting Tricot and would like a larger sized version, stay tuned - I hope to post some (long-overdue) upsized numbers next week.
And Stacy has started up a Rosebud knitalong! Well, actually it's a belly-along for any pattern that celebrates or bares your belly.

While Rosebud wasn't designed as maternity wear (see, I don't look pregnant!), there are several pregnant knitters who are interested in making it to wear over their growing bellies. Such a neat idea and a pleasant surprise! I love the idea of celebrating bellies (covered or uncovered). So for fun, I picked up a small pillow and tried on my Rosebud maternity style. Of course, this is not what I looked like pregnant. I looked more like this, which explains why I didn't get to wear my red maternity top for very long!
The Rosebud maternity try-on gave me an idea for those of you thinking about Rosebud as maternity wear: you might consider doing some short rows on the front edge to make it curved and give yourself more belly coverage. I can try to work out some numbers for you and add them to my Rosebud pattern page if you think that sounds like an interesting idea. You might also do an eyelet row in the middle of the ribbing on the body. Then you could make a crochet chain and thread it through the eyelets for a tie that ties in the back.
But you don't have to be pregnant to join the knitalong or knit Rosebud! I'm not expecting and I love my Rosebud. It's fun, light and swingy and makes me feel light and feminine. I love it so much, I even joined the knitalong to make a tank version for summer. Can I help it if I like my own patterns? (Blush.)
Somehow between catching up on all my daily reads and knitalongers' progress and signing up for more knitalongs than I could ever possibly fit on my knitalong sidebar (hee, hee), I actually managed to get some knitting done. The first cardi raye sleeve is finished.

All caught up yet?

Ooooh, I wanna do a tank version too! No more pregnancies for me, thanks, although I loved being pregnant both times. How much Rowan Wool/cotton do you estimate that it would take to knit the tank version of Rosebud?
Cardi raye is looking fabulous! I've gotten through my Spring Fling projects (mostly) - finished two Eros scarves and Flirty from Mission Falls Harvest pattern book. I'll have pics up on my blog this week! :)
Oh lady, NOW that is a belly! I have a fun belly shot, too. The few times I've shown it to people, they just about fall over. OMG!!! they exclaim. It really is hard to believe it shrinks back down to nothing -- in your case. In my case? That's another story. :) I want to knit Rosebud, too. Soon!
Alison, Rosebud is wonderful and in a tank that would be so awesome. When you have the pattern let me know I would be sooooo interested.
P.S. The fun fur is actually fun to knit with, and I didn't have any knitting problems with it. I think it actually classed up the poncho.
Goodness, girl, THAT is a belly. How far along were you in that picture. I'm 5 months along and already feeling huge. This is my first so every day I am thinking "This can't be right" or "Is this really happening?", or "Darnit, I can't fit into THIS anymore".
It's fun knitting baby stuff, though.
Rosebud the tank sounds great--I may have to put it on my summer list!
But oh that belly! My husband took a picture of my belly two days before the Miss was born & it's still the most fascinating/painful thing to look at.
Thanks for the mention. It was exciting to visit this morning and see my name in the middle section!
That belly! Beautiful, but it gave me flashbacks of my own toe-disappearing time. I didn't have twins and looked much bigger than you! (I had a 10/6 baby though).
A Rosebud tank, now that's an idea I rather like...And watching your Cardi Raye develop, I don't think I can hold out much longer (I keep peeking at the yarn supplier site).
What colour did you use instead of the green?
Wow that is quite the belly shot. You look so different. Cardi Raye is looking awesome.
Wow, lots to get caught up on! Hee hee, the idea of a Rosebud tank sounds interesting too, although I just finished another tank--the second in my Spring Fling knitting--and bought yarn for the Vogue cover tank, so it may be awhile before I can get to it.
Great belly shot! I don't know that I have the guts to take the same kind of shot. I'm 9 months now (2.5 - 3 weeks to go. UGH) and have already out grown most of my maternity pants & shirts! For anyone that is going to make rosebud for actual maternity wear, add MANY MANY more short rows than you think you'll need - all those "cute" little maternity tops will do you no good towards the end unless you really like baring your stretch-marked belly in public. :)
Once I get rid of my lovely belly - I'll definately be looking at rosebud as a project. Your Cardi Raye is turning out really beautiful - can't wait to see it put together.
Nancy, you have to take the picture. Get a digital camera so you don't have to imagine the CVS gals gasping as it comes through the developing machine. It is a valuable document with many applications. Humor and admiration, as in Alison's case, is only one of them.
Think of the arguments you can win by flashing that little picture. . . the possibilities are endless.
I've joined Stacy's Belly Time for a Rosebud tank too. At the end of August, I'll only be six months so hopefully I won't need too many shortrows. That's a great idea though - I hadn't thought of it. I'd be interested to see what figures you come up with (if you're doing it, that is). I'm still on the hunt for yarn to use. All the stuff in my stash would require much tweaking and I don't think I'm up for that.
It'll be fun to see everybody's version of Rosebud.
(Love the belly pictures though - both the pillow one and the real one.)
You really are amazing. I admire your knitability. I don't care if that is not a word, I also imagine that you are an enthusiastic person, which I like.
I *love* your belly pic. And the next time I go to NYC I will have to check out some yarn stores.
I love your red sweater! It is feminine and flattering. Thank you for sharing it with us :o)
Bless your big ole tummy! You produced such beautiful little boys with it ;o)
Donna
I LOVE the belly shots--the faux one and the real one. I think your short rows and eyelet idea are terrific. It would be so helpful to get that info from you, if it's not too much trouble.
Thank you so much for getting the word out on the BellyTime Knit/Crochet along! I'm looking forward to seeing all the rosebuds and other belly ideas!
Hey, everyone, glad you liked my big belly pic! That was taken the day before the boys were born.
Knitablility - not sure what it means, but it sounds good! Thanks!
Steph, I'm using Phildar Plaisance (color Piscine) instead of the green Licorne in the cardi raye. Unfortunately that color of Plaisance has been discontinued now and is very hard to find. :0(
Karen, good question about the yardage required for a Rosebud tank. I'm guessing 6-7 balls. I'll post that on my free patterns page as soon as I get some short row numbers together. Next week then probably!
You are such a whirlwind! I have no idea how you accomplish so much. I love the rosebud pattern--it's so feminine and pretty. I wouldn't have been able to wear it very long either when I was pregnant. My belly was ENORMOUS. hee hee. Speaking of enormous, I finished one of my spring fling projects: an eyelet baby hat. It didn't turn out quite the way I expected it to ;)
