mother's day

Hey ma, happy mother's day - your shrug is all done! Now you have to come visit us to get it.

And here's a picture of the back. Neat pattern, huh? Just a long rectangle sewn cleverly together to make this cool shape. I really like it. If I didn't already have a poncho of my own....

While I resign myself to having no nyc shrug of my own, I can enjoy my new big, slouchy, beachy Burda top.

I love it! The big sleeves are so fun to wear. I just want to hug myself the whole time I've got it on. The fabric was a gift from my mom and the pattern book a gift from my mother-in-law, so thanks moms!

It's a mom packed entry today! Quite timely, I'd say!
Can a girl have too many ponchos/shrugs? I think not!
Happy Mother's Day x2!

Happy Mom's Day, Alison! And doesn't that flowery top look great on you? If I pretend I'm your Mom, could you knit *me* a shrug? ;-)

Gorgeous shrug and what a bright colourful Burda top, perfect for summer. Hope you had a great Mothers Day..

Alison, I love your shrug! In fact, I love everything that you knit. How can I get the pattern to make one for myself? Thanks

How cute is your top! Darned cute. I love the bell sleeves. I've been trying to wear them for years, but have an uncanny ability to drag them through stuff...coffee, dinner. You of course would never do such a thing and look unscathed and lovely.

Great shrug. Your mom is sure to love it. As someone who is scared to use a sewing machine, I'm extremely impressed by your top. It turned out lovely.

Love that type of shrug construction. I was playing with strips of paper the other day to see ways to make stuff up, and that was one option, fun to see it for real :) Yours looks so comfy, must be tough to give away!

Happy Mother's Day, Alison. Your projects look great. Your mom will love her shrug.

She sews, she knits! Fantastic shrug and superspringy Burda. Way to go.

Thanks everyone for the congrats on my finished projects and the kind mother's day wishes. For mother's day, I caught myself a wicked bad cold and have been mostly in bed since then. So sorry for the delay in responding to comments and emails. I do appreciate all your comments, though! :)

Sue, the pattern was a store pattern from KnitNY, that was free if you buy the yarn for the shrug there. Planning a trip to NYC anytime soon? If you want to recreate the poncho, I'd suggest cutting out a paper rectangle and trying out different ways to sew it together to create the shape you like/want/are trying to copy. I have had to do that with both ponchos I've knit, just in order to understand what was going on - I'm not so good with the spatial thinking. ;0)

Thanks Alison. I sent an email to KnitNY and hope to hear from them. I am a beginner so making pattern is not something that I know how to do. You do beautiful work and I enjoy reading your blog! :-)
