maggie

It's maggie! All seamed, blocked, and finished off with a ribbon tie. I love her! She's so light and lovely. As much as I love my all seasons cotton tanks that I made last year, I've found that the aran weight cotton can be a bit heavy for real summer wear. This linen drape top should be much better for warm weather.

Yes, it's a new era in summer knits for me. Bring on the fine gauged cottons! Planned for this summer are my Habu cotton, some Phildar Licorne, Phil' Onde, and, yes, more linen drape. All US5 and undah! I feel five pounds lighter already.

Wow, Maggie looks gorgeous! I love that ribbon tie - it finishes off the sweater perfectly. What a great job!

I love lightweight cottons. When I was really new to knitting, the little stitches intimidated me somewhat. But now, I'm a convert! Your Maggie looks gooooood and a I like the ribbon detail. Beautiful as always!

It looks fabulous on you!

Allison - that looks so pretty! So feminine! I'd love to see you wear it with a little flouncy skirt - very 1940's. You'll just have to get David to take you somewhere!

That is a great sweater! Beautiful work, Alison!

Posted by: Leigh at July 19, 2004 9:04 AM

What a gorgeous photo, Alison! That color is purrfect on you. Love that style. Not many can carry off that high ribbing, but you sure can. I agree, date with the mate! :)

Very beautiful! The color and fit is perfect for you.

Posted by: Bliss at July 19, 2004 9:06 AM

Maggie is beeyootiful! Great color, too . . . I've only seen Linen Drape in more muted hues.

Posted by: chris at July 19, 2004 9:15 AM

Maggie looks fabulous on you -- what a flattering little sweater. I think you're spot on with regards to moving to lighter weight yarns for the summer!

Posted by: Theresa at July 19, 2004 9:19 AM

Gorgeous! I agree, summer should be all about fine gauged cottons. Smaller needles give you a lighter fabric, and tidy stitches...I've learned to love needles smaller than 6's.

Posted by: sharlyn at July 19, 2004 9:44 AM

Spectacular! Your Maggie came out great. Gotta love smaller stitches.

Posted by: Amy at July 19, 2004 10:04 AM

Beautiful! I love the extra long ribbing. Great job!

Very very cute! I would have thought I was looking at the Vintage Knits Book. Tackle that fine gauge!

Posted by: Cindy at July 19, 2004 10:40 AM

The color and shape are wonderful! Great job.

Posted by: margene at July 19, 2004 11:31 AM

You did a fantastic job on Maggie! You have such a talent for having your completed projects fitting you *perfectly*! A really beautiful sweater!

Posted by: Lynn at July 19, 2004 11:54 AM

Wow, that looks so pretty! I love the retro vintage feel. If only I liked Linen Drape!

Posted by: Kristine at July 19, 2004 11:57 AM

Oh Maggie looks very nice in linen drape! I knit her last year in the kidsilk haze and although I love that too, it's far too warm in most summery weather even with short sleeves. You'll get much more wear out of her! Nice job.

Very pretty and that ribbon tie is a great detail! Wonderful!

Posted by: Silvia at July 19, 2004 12:31 PM

Maggie looks fabulous on you. Very feminine, but not in a girlie way. This rivals the cardi raye for my "alison favorite".

Posted by: Julia at July 19, 2004 12:35 PM

You look great!!!

Gorgeous sweater - what a beautiful color. Where is the maggie pattern from? Vintage Knits? I adore it!

Posted by: kyla at July 19, 2004 1:12 PM

Wow, fabulous! Now I really want to try some Linen Drape. You look absolutely gorgeous in that pic.

Posted by: carrie at July 19, 2004 1:26 PM

This looks great! And this color blue looks perfect on you. I love the ribbon detail and the classic look of this top.

Posted by: Lisa at July 19, 2004 2:01 PM

Hooray, Alison! It looks just wonderful. Congratulations!

Posted by: Mary at July 19, 2004 2:38 PM

Beautiful job, Alison! Girlie, but not too girlie ;-) The color suits you well.

Posted by: Jenny at July 19, 2004 3:48 PM

OH! the color, the style, the fit!! TRES BIEN!!!! Wonderful! And, if you don't mind me saying....just darn good looking! :)
Great job! I love the ribbon closure!! Bravo to Alison!

Right on! Bee-yoo-tea-full! It looks great!

Posted by: Sarah at July 19, 2004 5:08 PM

Ahhh...I have LD envy! But, now I'm finally going to have time to knit again (after a few busy weeks!), so I'm back on it (and now even MORE motivated!)

Posted by: Eklectika at July 19, 2004 10:24 PM

So, so, so pretty! Your knitting is just so lovely, Alison. The shape and colour of Maggie really suit you, too. Congrats!

Posted by: other alison at July 20, 2004 4:33 AM

Gorgeous! I love that top even better with Linen Drape! You look all glowy...a perfect LD-along project, just as we all knew it would be.

Posted by: Sarah C. at July 20, 2004 7:30 AM

Maggie looks really great. She fits perfectly. I'm just curious but do you knit size smalls? Your tops always fit you so well. My Chickami top I just finished is too big and its a small. It's very frustrating to knit a sweater and not have it fit when all finished!

Posted by: Eilene at July 20, 2004 8:41 AM

Alison that looks really nice on you - I love that style and color. My linen drape is still sitting here looking at me - I haven't knit in almost a month - my wrists hurt too much. This has happened all of a sudden - do you know of any articles about how to hold your needles and exercises to do for this - I know I've seen them in the past, but always ignored them. Thanks!

Posted by: annhb at July 20, 2004 1:10 PM

just beautiful. great ribbon tie and perfect fit!

Posted by: froggy at July 20, 2004 8:36 PM

Simply stunning, and the color is ethereal. Beautiful work, Alison!

Maggie is delightful. You were born to wear that sweater, or that sweater was designed for you, or, maybe it's something like that, but reall much more complimentary. I am chugging away on Linen Drape, and I'm determined to wear it by Sunday. You are an inspiration.
