happy birthday...

...to the Phildar giraffe coat. Finally finished and sent off to the happy new parents.

Once I heard it was going to be a girl, I went ahead and did the blanket stitch trim in a more feminine lilac color. And I actually really like the navy for a little girl.

Of course, I absolutely love the giraffe! I'm such a sucker for these Phildar giraffes. In typical Phildar baby knits fashion, it's all about the finishing touches. They're a lot of work, but they do make all the difference.

Hey, I wish I had a coat like this!

(As always, specific project info like pattern and yarn details are at the top of the archive page for this project. Just click on the time stamp and page up from there.)

What a spectacular giraffe! I am so tempted to buy the pattern and start yet another baby project. Great job!

ADORABLE. Really really great job! And yes, navy for a girl is very cool. I'm sick of pastels!

Lucky baby! A navy coat is just perfect for a little girl. Mine (Lilja 2 years) got a navy, hooded coat for christmas, but it's not even close to being as adorable as yours. But the best thing is the giraffe toy! When you think about it there should really be a pocket on front of the coat to put the toy in, right?

Oh wow! Great sweater. Blue is cool for girlies too. The stitching is a perfect touch. Now of course my DD is telling me she 'need' one..as well as that tea set ..

I love the giraffe, too! An I agree, navy is good for a girl.

I absolutely love this Phildar giraffe jacket. I love everything you knit. I will have to get this pattern and make this for my daughter (and soon-to-be son)... and I love navy with lilac trim for a girl! Way to go!!

Beautiful job on the coat! Giraffes are my favorite animals.

Wow, that jacket is so impressive! What a gorgeous gift. And the blanket stitch looks fabulous.

Go Alison Go!! You're gonna make some Olympic records!

That jacket is just too cute. Like you said, I want one! Where do you get your Phildar patterns / books? I've been looking online and can't find them. Any tips are appreciated.
Thanks.

I searched for that pattern book, and it looks like it may be only for sizes 0-9 months? I'd love to make a jacket like that for my daughter, but she's 14 months old, so way past those sizes. Do you know if there is a larger version?

Very cute. I also *heart* the Phildar giraffes. They're on my oh-so-long list...

Oooh, cute!

You've now got me searching for the 2002 Phildar books like some sort of baby knitting holy grail. :) Perhaps I'll find them someday...

Beautiful!! Looks just perfect!!!

So very adorable. The recipient will lie down on the floor in a swoon!

Thanks everyone! I wishe I'd gotten some better pics. These came out a little blurry. But I hope to get a picture of it being modeled by baby sometime. :)

To answer questions about the pattern. It's from Phildar's Tricotez Calin #2, which came out in 2002. I haven't really seen older Phildar mags for sale anywhere. The current ones are available directly from Phildar or through some online shops. Check out my phildar info page for links.
