holiday?

No holiday from holiday knitting. Got to make those socks!

Here's koigu sock number two, flying off my needles. Somehow my gauge has tightened up and despite my thinking "looser, looser" I can't loosen back up. It'll still fit just fine, particularly because of the ribbing, but I hope my gauge stays consistent after this, because I've got two more skeins of Koigu for socks for my other great Aunt. I don't want to end up with baby socks by the time I get to the last one!

Question: I'm going to have some leftovers from each skein of Koigu. So what do you do with your Koigu remnants? No way it's enough to make socks for the boys. But I really want to use it again. It's such a pleasure to knit with. So koigu-lovers, what do you suggest?

Those are great socks! and a tight gauge is wonderful for socks, they do soften up with wear and its better to start out rather tight.
Many sock knitters use their leftover sock wool to make tiny little socks to use for xmas decorations. Its a bit late to make 24 for a calendar but maybe for next year? You can also use them to make the little sweaters to hang on a xmas tree?
Some people save all their sock leftovers and then make "monster socks" from all the different leftovers, completely chaotic looking socks, that somehow fit together again.

Geez. Sorry, I doubleclicked!

I was going to suggest patchwork socks, but I like the sound of "Monster socks" so muc better!

Quick, sneak in larger needles. I'm into the Monstersocks. But you'd need more leftovers, and that means you'd have to knit more socks ... I'd give you mine, but I wants it, it's ours, it's my precious ...

I have 3 nieces all at Barbie age, so I tend to use all my Koigu scraps to make Barbie clothes. Scarfs, hats, purses and sweaters with the longer scraps.

Why not use the Koigu as accent yarn (heel and top inch of ribbing for socks for the boys.

I use my left-over Koigu for Stay-On Baby Bootees. I did buy a skein of black Koigu (it does exist) and my long term plan is to make stripey Koigu socks with all the leftover bits interpersed with black stripes.

I used mine to make little stocking caps for the sock monkeys. red heel sock monkeys love their little hats.

and I love your blog!!! I learn so much. nancy

I would have mentioned the calendar thing, but Maus was quicker. My husband just told me it isnt common to have an advent calendar in the US?
But if you like one, so you can knit 24 socks (or 48 if every boy is supposed one everyday ) and fifinsh it till next advent. Lots of people over here use to use sock yarn leftover for that. If my little one a littel older i will knit her a calendar too.
We also have here some projects for socks which fit early borns, whitch people knitting them donate to a hospital, that might be a nice project too.

Or these little dolls which Laura of poormissfinch.com is knitting as a gift for someone.

no my brain is empty, we have been weekend shopping and I am tired :)

I like to use my leftover Koigu for baby booties. I like the advent calendar ideas too.

I find that koigu remnants work wonderfully for making miniature stockings and mittens for Christmas ornaments.

leftover koigu scraps make great mittens for little toddler boys--maybe you could alternate leftover yarn colors

I had to check your comments because I have the same question--great ideas everyone! I definitely want to do some mini socks for the Christmas tree but I also like the baby bootie idea and the heel-toe contrast idea. Beautiful socks, Allison!

OK, I'm confused by the toe. What kind of toe is this? I've made two kinds of toes so far, this looks strange, I mean, different.

I have no Koigu and I have never knit socks, but I had to say how great yours are looking and that I just love the interspersed black and remnants stipes idea that Claudia suggested.

Thanks for the great ideas everyone! I love the idea of the little Xmas ornaments. I even have a pattern for those. I doubt that my leftovers are enough for mittens for the boys, but mixing them in with some black would be really cool! I may just save that idea for me. ;0)

Valentina, Priscilla Gibson-Roberts' pattern has short-rowed heels AND toes. The toe is made just like the heel. The short rows go from the bottom of the foot over the toe and up on to the top of the foot. You seam the short-rowed toe and top of the foot together with Kitchener stitch. The final look is like a store-bought sock, where there's a seam just below the toes on the top of the sock. Nothing to bother your toes or foot soles while you're walking. It's brilliant!

I do like Caudia's sock suggestion. And it leads me to another similar suggestion: there's a fantastic Candace Eisner Strick pattern that uses a solid and a variegated yarn to make a stained-glass effect. I think Woodland Woolworks has a sock pattern called Stained Glass Socks that is cool too.

you should check out my blog to see what I have been making with my leftover scrap yarn.

Gauntlets in stripes from the Purl Stitch. I have just short of a full skein in blues that I am going to use to make a short pair. After I finish my first pair of socks. (Broadripple Pattern from knitty)
