swatching white bread

Yes, Kat, you're right, my Easter basket was filled with the "white bread" yarn that I got at our Knitsmiths yarn swap.

I stopped by my LYS last week to pick out some lovely (and by lovely, I mean horribly 70's retro) coordinating yarn to use with my swap fun find. Johanna and I were trying to decide if the yarn was all acrylic or if it had some actual wool in it and I'm thinking, well, the only label we have says it's bread, so that's no help... We decided that if it wasn't wool, it was pretending to be, so I choose Classic Elite's Bazic, a wool with a similar look and texture to the white bread yarn in an awesome retro spring green. And here's what I'm thinking of doing with it all.

I love that idea! The vintage knits book has so many great sweaters, but that's one of my favorites! I love that it came in a bread bag...I wrapped some of my Christmas presents in Wonder Bread bags, too fun!

Stripes must be in the air. I'll have to send you a little sneak peek of the Blue Marigold design I've been working on. The colors are very Alison...

I love the color combo. I have wanted to make that sweater for a while now. Hope it works out like you want.

Those colors look so freakin' cute together. Great choice! That is the perfect pattern :)

I love that sweater! I thought about making that also to give the patterns in Vintage Knits a chance to redeem themselves. I had one great success with the Wavy-Line and one great failure with the Camisole. There has to be one more good pattern in there, right! Speaking of Wavy-Line... where's yours? I know you have yarn for it marinating somewhere in your stash...

Hey Jenn, the wavy line is all set to be my April sweater! I was waiting for some warmer weather to get it started. Fingers crossed that this sweater and my wavy-line are as successful as yours.

OK-we must be long lost sisters separated at birth!!!I loved the Jo Sharp store model-looked at it at "one good yarn"-got the book and yarn to make it. Just picked up the book vintage knits last week w/ plans to make the rowan t.
Every hard to find summer tops that aren't tanks-see I'm the older-long lost sister!!!

I've been lurking on your blog for a while, but I never know what to say or post. I think yuor new sweater sounds neat, but my first reaction on looking at the colors is that the brighter orange may overpower the other colors all together. So it might not look like a cohesive whole in the end. Maybe in smaller doses? And also, it may not be so vivd in real life.

Ooh, Vintage Knits is a great book! Emily (Yarn MIracle) made the same sweater in blue/green tones. Can't wait to see yours!

You've got such a fun sense of color. That combo will look gorgeous on you!

That is groovy. And I am so into stripes right now! Looks fun.

Ha, Kathy! So what are we making next? ;0)

Hi Jamie, thanks for commenting. I have to say though that the colors are looking perfect together! The orange is bold, but that pinky peach is also a bit brighter than it appears, so it's not totally overpowered.

Oh yeah, Jenny, stripes good.
