in the deep end again

My new Lorna's Laces "argyle" yarn is soooo pooling.

I'm blue...

...no I'm gray with a crazy red stripe!

Question, where should I place the heel? What should be the front and what should be the back??

Oh, I think red in back - esp since blue is your favorite color...

What a CHANGED WOMAN (you disliked pooling yarn and sock-making)! Glad for the change
'cause your making us change our minds too!

oh, I love the red and gray stripe in front and blue solid in back, but Anne-Caroline is right about blue being your color...still I'd go for the funkier colors in front.

I'd put the red stripe on one side, with part in front and part in back.

Red Heel.
very original ^_^

Wow, that pooling looks just so cool. That's all I have to say, no opinion on the front/back issue. They'll look great no matter what you choose!

whatever you decide front or back, i would try an afterthought heel to preserve the integrity of the pooling for as much of the sock as possible.

I'd put the red in the back but I really like the idea of the afterthought heel to preserve the pooling.

I just finished the first of a pair of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in Mariner, a long discontinued colourway. It's very similiar to Argyle, both in the pooling and the colours. Once I got past the heel however it stopped pooling, blah. I'd rip it apart (like I did it's twin) but they aren't for me so I'm trying not to worry so much.

I think they would look great with the heel centered so it's half red/gray or half blue/gray, if possible. My favorite part of knitting socks is a mismatched pair! The colors look really good together, too.

uh oh! i think i have that same yarn

I vote for red on the front. I always find my socks pool on the leg, but not on the foot. Why is that?

Posted by: Mary at April 24, 2005 5:51 PM

I like the idea of the red running down the outside of the leg - like a crazy running stripe. I guess that'd put the heel at the junction of blue/red? I have some Lorna's Laces Shepard sock to try and I can't wait to see how it'll knit up.

I would say blue in front, red in back. That is awesome yarn!

Maybe this is the equivalent of the pooling scarf?.... (smile)....

Looks wonderful..

I don't think I've ever noted you before, I just lurk, but I *love* the pooling and just had to speak up and say so. I'm of two minds - either a red heel or a red stripe down the side. :)

Wow, that is some crazy pooling action. I initially thought about a red heel, but have reconsidered and think the red should be a stripe of some sort..and the heel in a more neutral area.

I like the idea of the red swooping down the front!
