Say that ten times fast.
Oh, I love me a good hem. And I love me this denim yarn! I originally bought the denim to make a Tasha bag for me, but then I found an awesome blue jean bag in a vintage store and the yarn decided that it had to become this denim pinafore (from Erika Knight's simple knits for little cherubs) for my friends' little girl whose first birthday is coming up. I've had a bit of trouble getting the right gauge and sizing down the pattern (my first, failed start is on the right in the above picture), but the little dress is so sweet, I've been able to battle through the difficulties rather easily. The simple stockinette has actually made for very good playground, car, and talking-to-the-in-laws knitting.
Plus I get to do hems. Picot hems!

denim babies
That dress looks really cute. Can't wait to see it finished, so hurry up!!
I just love pinafores on little girls :)
By the way, your headline made me think that you'd taken up sewing again. How about it... we miss "sew blue".
Is that Rowan denim yarn you're using? If so, is it turning your hands blue? :-) I started a sweater out of this stuff a couple years back, and my bamboo needle is now permanently discolored.
That looks like it's going to be really cute. I have the Simple Knits for Cherished Babies, so I imagine the book for Cherubs has got to be adorable as well.
i've been thinking about making this for awhile now. Now I HAVE to. I love picot hems!
That pinafore is adorable! I wish I'd seen it before I started the Picot dress from the new Debbie Bliss book.
Picot hems -- my favorite!
What a lucky little girl! When did you find time to knit this small guage dress (pls share your secret -- continental knitting???)!
i am now compelled to start the pinafore for scout...i got the ms. bea's denim knits pattern book..but i'd like to check out the erika knight pattern too
I have been waiting to do this one for a long time but it's next on my list. I love the picot hem and the girly-meets-denim charm. Yours looks loooovely. xoxo Kay
So cute. Love the denim-y color and the cute edge. Enjoy those hems :)
Soooo glad that you have finally gotten out the denim!!
Your picot hems are loverly! I now love hems too as I've just finished knitting your T-Shirt design from Magknits. I want to put hems on more things! Do you have any tricks regarding seaming hems? That's the one place I had trouble and it was only funky where the armbands are a contrasting color.
Thanks.
Love your blog too.
Ooh, pretty. We just got that book in at work and I've been working on the little dog in the back. There's some super cute stuff in there.
And can I just tell you that I'm practically jumping out of my skin in anticipation for Sockapalooza 2? No rush, since it's not like I don't have a million other projects, but boy, I'm excited, especially since I missed out on the first one.
I made this for my daughter and she loves it. She wore it today as a matter of fact. It is really adorable and I love the fact that the more I wash it, the nicer it gets. The other nice thing is that as it gets too short to be a dress, she can wear it as a tunic top.
I love picot hems, I'm going through a bit of a picot hem phase with my designing right now... Such fun!
I love the hem. I don't know how to do that yet, one more thing for my list of "need to learn how to....." That will be one lucky little cherub!
I too love hems! I'm in the middle of knitting your NBaT pattern and am using the picot turning row instead of the purl row -- adding a small feminine touch. Our knit along is having a great time with the t-shirt, many thanks for the wonderful and fun pattern!
