nyc fo's

I am pleased to report that the birthday scarves were finished in NYC on time and happily received. Mom's roommate "Woody" was even able to model them for their final picture.

And, there's another NYC project that I was rushing to get done for the trip. A secret one.

Surprise! It's a honeymoon cami for bride-to-be, Shannon, who had her shower in the big city this weekend.

I knit the cami in Debbie Bliss Cathay in the prettiest orange - because Shannon LOVES orange. It is so soft and silky against the skin. I know this because I had to try it on many times during the knitting. Cathay, as my knitbud Kathy (of Cathay Tivoli tee fame) first told me, grows with its first washing and then later with wear. And it does. This will be one of the only times I say this (because I am bad-example-non-swatching-never-blocking knitting girl and would never tell others to do things that I am too lazy to do, even if they are the "right" things to do), but if you use this yarn (and there's no reason why you shouldn't - it's a delight) definitely knit a swatch and wash it before you start knitting.

Now, I can't wait to see it on Shannon!

(PS - More on my trip to NYC, including all the YARN SHOPPING, after tomorrow's sock update!)

Hi Alison!
Does Woody have a purpose other than being a scarf model? Is he life size? I don't know why he intrigues me but I think he's pretty neat!

Woody is just about life size. He seemed a bit taller to me when I was a kid. I realize now that he's a little on the short side for a full-grown man. He used to stand by the door as the official greeter, but since his joints have weakened with old age, he's been seated for about a decade. He's a good old bean, though.

I'm glad you were able to get that Cathay to work for you! It's such a nice yarn... when its ability to expand and stretch is taken into account, it sure makes a lovely top! And of course I had no idea that this was for your friend, but I'm glad you were able to try it on as you were knitting :).

Everything looks fantastic! And lest you think I'm copying you (I sorta am), I brought the scarf book out to my friend in CA and asked her to pick out the one she wants - she chose the Ruffles. I bought a beautiful 100% bamboo yarn in SF which I hope to show you on Sunday. And I immediately downloaded the Tivoli tee for another project to get to a few years from now. :)

Wow! Those scarves look great after they were all done. What a great shower gift also. I love THC and I am toying with starting another one even though fall is just around the corner. . . . . .

I love the way those scarves look. Woody seems to enjoy being the model, too.

Thanks for the tip on Cathay. I'm going to be making a slightly fitted top and would hate to have it "grow" without me!

Congrats on your FOs!

And oh poop--I'm knitting a Tivoli T in Cathay, but did not do a swatch and did not think about what "negative ease" meant before starting. DOH! I see some serious frogging in my future. Thanks for the warning, though. At least I won't have finished only to find the bottom of the T down to my knees!

Looking forward to seeing your LYS adventures! I visited Habu and Purl on Saturday.

Three FO's in one post, wow!

I knit myself a honeymoon cami (adding short rows) and I absolutely love it! I hope your friend enjoys hers as much as I enjoy mine!

I started on the "H" on the baby's Weasley. My first attempt at colorwork. I am going to frog what I did and bring it to knitting group this week. After I finish these two, I am going to make a POA scarf and teach myself to knit "the right way". (Right now I knit backwards.) And I am going to teach a friend to knit so she can make POA scarves for her daughters for Christmas!

Those finished objects are wonerful! Can't wait to hear all about the yarn shopping :)

Your honeymoon (and scarves!!!) look great. I'm so touched that you made my pattern. I'll have to try it in Cathay - I'm due to make another one. Is it okay if I snag the photo when I next update the gallery? xox

Hi Alison.
I'm halfway through my sockapalooza socks! (Number one is finished and on the blog.)
And now for something that would qualify for two of your knitalongs. Have you seen the Dobby Socks pattern? It can be found at

They're great! And I am swoon-y with envy over 3 FO's in one post.

Yeah for Shannon! I'm sure she loved it! I hope that she had a great shower. What a good knitting buddy you are.

Beautiful! What a great present :)

Ruffles looks fantastic! Just the right amount of drape.

And the honeymoon cami is LOVELY. Shannon is a lucky bride to be!

The knitting looks great! Good job on the scarves, they look lovely.

Is it just me, or does the knot on Woody's chest totally look like a nip?
