another weasley?!

There are so many Weasleys, why not another weasley knitalong? Okay, weasley knitters, get those magic needles ready!

pick a button, any button

I've posted lots of links in the sidebar, so check there for info on where to find all kinds of Harry Potter knitting patterns. I'll try to start writing up a pattern soon and MA says she's willing to share the pattern that she came up with. Plus, I'm working on a little something harry potter-y right now, which I should be able to share with you next week!

what could it be?

Got any more links and/or pattern suggestions for me? Let me know!

How about the bookmark? It's about all I'm good for right now. :)

Hi Alison! Count me in for another weasley! I will be making one with an "I", and if I'm really adventurous, another with an "O".

Maybe we could email Rowan, show them your knit-alongs, and demand they re-release the HP sweater pattern! Maybe they could include the entire alphabet already-charted, I'm feeling lazy today....(grin)

Posted by: Amy Lu at August 18, 2005 7:33 AM

Thanks for including me in the sidebar. I'm using atypically knits pattern for the original Gryffindor scarf, using Smart superwash, which is wonderful (http://www.wool-tyme.com/wt_ca/catalog86_0.html).

Posted by: Songbird at August 18, 2005 7:42 AM

You can count me in. This might be the push I need to finish the Slytherin Scarf, start and finish the Ravenclaw Scarf, and then make a sweater to match!

Posted by: Seanna Lea at August 18, 2005 8:17 AM

I'm thinking that we might need some house elf socks! :-)

Posted by: Samantha at August 18, 2005 8:47 AM

Ooh, a Weasley sweater is exactly what I need! Count me in - it'll be my first sweater!!

Now, where can I get a set of Mrs. Weasley's "magic needles?"

Posted by: Heather at August 18, 2005 8:48 AM

I'm in. This will be my first knit-along, I'm so excited. Unfortunatly I just blew my yarn budget on yarn for two sweaters, so I can't do a full size sweater. I'll knit a mini-Weasley sweater. Maybe a few if all goes well!

Posted by: Lisa at August 18, 2005 9:00 AM

How about a Mrs. Weasley sweater pattern like the one she's wearing during her first scene in CoS? Maybe using the ripples like your shrug instead of the crocheted scrap sleeves? Pretty please?

Posted by: Lisa at August 18, 2005 9:02 AM

Great! You can count me in. I am working on the Azkaban Gryffindor scarf using Brown Sheep nature spun.

Posted by: Jennifer at August 18, 2005 9:09 AM

This sounds awesome! Please count me in! Also, I have a good link for the Harry Potter school sweater (Grey) and the Quidditch Sweater. Hope these help!

could it be a....sock? i heard that dani will be working on some handpainted sock yarn for 'Gryffindor' house

Posted by: lisa b at August 18, 2005 9:28 AM

Ooo, ooo, ooo! I'm in! I don't know how fast I'll be, but I'm definitely in. I'm going to make one with a K.

Posted by: kristin at August 18, 2005 9:49 AM

Count me in...I am still working my way to finish the Gryffindor scarf for E. for Halloween with my Plymouth Encore. The last 2 days I have actually knitted at really long red lights in the car!

Posted by: Phoebe at August 18, 2005 10:12 AM

count me in! I want to go to the movie in style, baby ;0)

Posted by: cara at August 18, 2005 10:39 AM

Count me in too! I just finished my sockapalooza socks Monday, so it is definitely time to start another one of Alison's fabulous knitalongs again!

Posted by: Susan at August 18, 2005 10:46 AM

Oooh, Oooh, I want in. Where's the link to join the list??? I couldn't find it. Please let me know what to do to join.

Posted by: knittingnurse at August 18, 2005 10:47 AM

me, me, me!

I made a little HP bag before book 6 came out (but not sure this really counts since it was basically just making 18 inches of the scarf pattern @ atypicallyknit and then folding it in half and adding a handle - he he he!) ... this will be my first knitalong. I feel like a grown-up knitter now LOL As soon as I decide on a pattern (or two?) I'll let you know. THANKS!

Posted by: Kara at August 18, 2005 10:50 AM

Did you see here

http://www.livejournal.com/community/hp_knitting/169720.html

that there is discussion that the scarf is actually k1p1 ribbing knit flat ;-)
Count me in to the Weasley knit along Ill definitely make something Harry Potter for the new movie .

Posted by: Mary at August 18, 2005 11:42 AM

If knit-alongers wish to put another letter on the front of their weasley, someone has created HP fonts:
Lumos: http://www.geocities.com/carpesaponem/lumosmain.htm
and Parseltongue: http://www.geocities.com/carpesaponem/parsel.htm

Posted by: Deborah at August 18, 2005 11:46 AM

I'd love to join along with your HP Knitalong> I'm already working on the HP Bookscarf and am seriously debating on a quidditch sweater too. Fun, fun!

Posted by: Michelle at August 18, 2005 12:05 PM

I'm in. I'm have the Griffindor scarf on the needles, with a Ravenclaw one in the wings ...

I'm guessing that you're working on HP socks. Maroon, with a gold trapped bar stripe around the top.

Posted by: Ruth at August 18, 2005 12:06 PM

Please include me, too! I've just decided to do an Azkaban scarf for my mom for Christmas (she's a librarian and loves HP!). Also, I just found the most awesome Weasley sweater phone cozy pattern yesterday! Maybe for folks who want to do something smaller? http://www.grittyknits.com/ViewPost755.aspx

Posted by: Amanda at August 18, 2005 12:21 PM

i blinked and missed the sockapalooza so i'm not going to let that happen again! i'm in, though i have no idea what to make or for whom. perhaps my niece. is a 2yo too young to be in Gryffindor?

Posted by: shireen at August 18, 2005 12:28 PM

I am so in! I'm having trouble finding the pattern though. I'm wondering if (since the Rowan pattern seems to be out of print) it's okay for those who own it to share it with the rest... I'm not sure how copyright laws work... is this legal? Or is there a good pattern that's similar enough??? I'd love to start looking for a good yarn to use, but don't know what weight the pattern will call for, so I'm anxious to get ahold of a pattern. When do we cast on and how do we sign up?

Posted by: Jeanie at August 18, 2005 12:34 PM

Forgot to mention that I'm looking for the pattern in an adult size!

Thanks!

Posted by: Jeanie at August 18, 2005 12:36 PM

Count me in - I've looked over my pattern, and I should have it up on my blog tomorrow night if all goes well.

As for mine - I'm going to make mine out of Knit Pick's Andean Treasure - in blue, just like the one that you made. My goal? To try to have it done in time for the GOF opening.

Posted by: MA at August 18, 2005 12:43 PM

Oh, I'm in again. I did finally finish my first Weasley sweater (just shy of 24 hours before the book was sold), so I'm all set for something more. Maybe socks, or another scarf; I've already got a couple of sweaters on the needles.

Posted by: Heather at August 18, 2005 12:56 PM

I'm so glad you are doing this! I'm just finishing a Ron sweater, because I missed the last Knitalong and wanted to have one ready for the new book and the Goblet of Fire movie. I'm set to block. I used a top down pattern that was really fun to do. Can I join your new Knitalong if I'm already so far along?

Posted by: Anne at August 18, 2005 1:08 PM

Definitely in--especially once MA gets her pattern up! Whoo hoo! It will be a b-day gift for my brother--on Sept 17th!

Posted by: mascarasnake at August 18, 2005 1:18 PM

Oh you enabler! I am thinking of making a Chullo hat modeled after the one Ron has on in the latest film. Or a red hat like Hermione's. But probably a Ron Chullo hat since it would be a good way to use up scraps.
So... sign me up!

Posted by: Emily at August 18, 2005 1:20 PM

As we speak I'm working on a Slytherin (boo, hiss) bookscarf for a co-worker, and I have supplies for 2 Gryffindors and 1 Ravenclaw bookscarves too. That's as close as I can come to joining in for now. I've made a promise to myself that once my sock pal's socks are finished (this weekend?), the remainder of August and the month of September are committed to FO'ing my brains out.

Posted by: Diane at August 18, 2005 2:01 PM

By some miracle...I was just able to get the Rowan weasley pattern from http://www.yarnforewe.com/ and unfortunately it was their last.

Please put me on the knitalong...I'll be knitting the sweater with the H of course!

in the colors Conker and corn

Thanks Alison! I'm so excited!

I had good knitting karma today!

Posted by: heather at August 18, 2005 3:43 PM

Hey - my name is in the sidebar. Guess I have to come through on this now!

I've got my hands on some felted tweed in lovely colours(148 and 150). How much do you think I need for HP-sweaters in sizes 4 and 14 years?? How many did you use last year for the boys' sweaters? Did you use a pattern? Will your pattern be for the felted tweed?

Can't wait to see what your surprise is...

Posted by: helene at August 18, 2005 5:52 PM

Count me in as well! Will probably work a scarf of some sort.

BTW, does anyone know what the school colors for Hogwarts itself are?

Posted by: Jen at August 18, 2005 8:04 PM

You? Are a princess among women. Yes, you are. Thanks for all of your hard work...Weasley, here I come!!!!

Posted by: E at August 18, 2005 9:34 PM

I'd like to join the knitalong. Not sure what I'll knit yet...

Posted by: Carrie at August 18, 2005 11:18 PM

ooocount me in I just started my ravenclaw Poa scarf last night. I finally found a yarn to use for the brinze. (knitpicks maple syrup)

Posted by: erin at August 18, 2005 11:19 PM

Oh boy can I play too?!! I would love to make a scarf not sure which one yet.

Amanda :)

Posted by: Amanda at August 19, 2005 11:43 AM

Thanks for starting this one up again. I would love to join. I am planning to make some scarves!

Posted by: Lolly at August 19, 2005 12:24 PM

Yay! My first knitalong, too! I am psyched to make Weasleys for my little guys. I would like to use something nice and tweedy. But it needs to be somewhat economical, and preferably machine washable. Is that a request only magic could fill? Suggestions welcome!

Posted by: Laura at August 19, 2005 2:22 PM

Count me as well! Yarn is on order for a Azkaban Gryffindor scarf.

Posted by: Stacie at August 19, 2005 6:25 PM

Please join me in, this will be my first knitalong. I'll make a scarf following the "older" pattern on atypicaly.net. Another suggestion: these socks http://www.knittingzone.com/catalog/product_info.php?pName=hoggwartts-socks-pattern-download&cName=by-type-downloadable-patterns , seen at The KnittingZone. For leftovers, perhaps?

Posted by: Meike at August 20, 2005 5:03 AM

Hey! I'd love to join in the Weasley Along! I'm finishing up a HP scarf for my niece, and then I plan to make her a Weasley with a "J" (both are for Christmas).

I saved the pic on my computer. Thanks again!

Posted by: Kristyn at August 20, 2005 12:37 PM

I want to join!! Right now I'm working on a HP Bookscarf. I also plan to make a HP house scarf sometime (can't decide which house yet). I plan on making other things, because I heart Harry Potter.

Posted by: Luvtocraft at August 20, 2005 2:40 PM

Sign me up too please! My four year old wants a Weasley sweater in blue with a D on the front.. so I'm going to try and make it for him in time for GOF. I hope. I also have to make a Gryffindor POA scarf for myself before the movie too.

Posted by: Mouse at August 20, 2005 7:12 PM

I'm not a knitter...but,goodness, your blog has to be addictive...getting to see all those pretty yarns and fibers we can't get in South Central Kansas! I do, crochet, though. Too bad there aren't more sources available for Harry Potter Crochet themed projects. I'd probably be as big a sucker for them, as I am the books and movies themselves!

Keep up the good work, and I'll continue to read it! LOL....Happy knitting...( Maybe I'll learn to knit one of these days!)

Nita

Posted by: Nita at August 20, 2005 7:40 PM

I'd love to join up! I'm in the midst of making a ribbed gryffindor scarf. I need to do a couple more before November and the next movie.

Posted by: eyeleen at August 20, 2005 11:04 PM

Count me in! I can't wait to make a Weasley sweater, and I have yarn crying to be a scarf!

Posted by: Lynnette at August 21, 2005 2:48 PM

sign me up! It will keep me focused on finishing the hppoa scarf! :)

Posted by: tania at August 21, 2005 5:30 PM

I'm in. We're all about Harry Potter at commuknity. Kate's been making house scarves and I'm hard at work on my Slytherin house sweater. A Weasley will be in the offing once we get the Rowan Felted Tweed in stock.

Posted by: Nathania at August 21, 2005 7:50 PM

Count me in for the Weasley along too! I've been wanting to start this project come September for my nieces, so some company will be great.

Posted by: Christina at August 22, 2005 9:58 AM

Does anybody know if there is some kind of "master list" showing colors used for different yarns when knitting HP items? I would love to use a superwash wool for a scarf but am not sure what colors to get.

Posted by: Angela at August 22, 2005 9:22 PM

Angela, check out the scarf patterns at atypical.knit. She's got several specific color suggestions listed.

Posted by: alison at August 22, 2005 9:27 PM

Count me in on this as well!

Posted by: Becky at August 23, 2005 12:19 AM

I'd love to get in on this. I'm planning a Ravenclaw version for my daughter for Christmas. What do I need to do now? Just yoink the button and go to?
