tuesday is knitalong day: the late edition

Thanks so much to all of you who sent updates! It's a good feeling to know that so many of you are already finished or very near to it. Great job, everyone!

Here's your "late" edition of the update (and be sure you caught the big early edition here):

Feet up and done:

Tammy's Shelridge Farms merino scalloped lacy socks have been blocked and blocked some more and are ready
Dorothee's beautiful rich red ribbed socks are all done (I loved this yarn so much, we did a little yarn swap - check out my new yarn below!)
Becci has also finished rich, red ribbed socks
Amanda's purple Lorna's Laces little shell socks are stunning (best wishes to Amanda riding out the hurricane!)
Leanne's socks are the perfect combination of green and yellow, cable and ribs
Sharon's strawberry shortcake socks look positively edible
Tracy's green almost argyles are great (I gotta get that pattern!)
Erin is all done with her silky wool petticoat socks
Kate's orangey/red socks have converted her to short-row heels
Chris' Cherry Tree Hill Nantucket Red cable and ribs are lurvely
Femiknit Mafia's green supermerino anklets are gorgeous
Shannon knit the Friday Harbor socks in space dyed yarn (look, she's got a new blog!)
Marlana's made Flower Power cable and ribs
Cece's Cherry Tree Hill Glitz Heatwave socks are small and sparkly
and Rebecca reports that her Lorna's Laces Icehouse socks are all done

Getting there:

Cathy has the legs done on her lovely Unst lace socks
For Amy, the third time's a charm for finding the right yarn and pattern for her pal
Katie has started her second sock and is boring the garden gnome to death
Jenna's first green lace sock looks at home in the garden
Kelly has finished her first colorwork sock, Vermont, and will be starting New Hampshire next
Em has been keeping her socks secret - only one little black and white pic for us to get excited about
Melissa's green patterned sock looks awesome - she says there may be some ripping though due to sizing issues - you still got time, Melissa; you can do it!
Linda may be distracted, but she's still making progress on her orange Koigu lovelies
Lori's beautiful cable/lace sock is on world tour!
Wanda's lace rib is so pretty
Timothy has done it again: outsmarting the second sock syndrome by knitting the second sock first - clever man!
Anna is working on her second sock (check out her gorgeous green Elfine socks - free pattern!)
and Renee did struggle with second sock syndrome, but is hanging in there (pics coming soon, she says)

And here it is - no not progress on my sock pal socks, I didn't get to that! It's the incredible sock yarn that Dorothee sent me from Germany.

wanna see a close-up?

Each strand is gorgeous and the color combination is really delightful. I can't put this on my feet! I've got to come up with something really special for this stuff! Thanks so much, Dorothee.

Good morning! With really wonderful sock yarn I like to make scarves on size 2 needles. I did one multidirectional and am now working on a feather & fan. Here's one:

You could also do lace with it! How cool would that be?

OOO pretty yarn. Dorothee got me some for my birthday, too! Thank you for starting this sock along, otherwise I wouldn't have met her :)

I just looked at the list of people who are done and ready to send their socks off! Wow! I can just imagine all those beautiful socks flying around the world, criss-crossing the globe in a couple of weeks! I wonder if any will cross paths?
You are doing an incredible job of keeping track of them all.

alison, i went to the link (i speak german too!), but I couldn't find your awesome colorway - any tips?

Posted by: Kyla at August 30, 2005 1:12 PM

Hi Alison, I recently send some of this yarn to the US too. I never used it and I think it is not popular here, but I stumbled over the link to it somewhen and thought it might be something special as a gift.

Kyla, it might be the chili pepper colourway under yarns with wool. But I cant find the yarn I bought there anymore. I think the owner make her yarn and when its out its over with this colour or quality.

Totally what I was thinking, Larissa. I'm just waiting for the perfect lacy pattern to catch my eye! Thanks for the link to yours. I love that Vera colorway, but wouldn't wear it as socks - a scarf is brilliant!

Kyla, I didn't see the same color there either. Dorothee said it was called "Cosmeea" and there wasn't any more. I think Sybille is right, Ewa makes it herself and once it's gone, it's gone. It looks like she's making and selling more fall colors now, doesn't it?

Your hosting skills are totally impressive! If you do another sock swap, I'd definitely join in. And that yarn is absolutely gorgeous :)

Everyone's socks are looking so good!

And OMG, I need that sock yarn! Those are such great nipper colors! What a beautiful present Dorothee sent you.

I wonder if we could each do a review on the yarn we used? It could come in very helpful for future socks... and maybe a sockapal3za?

My pleasure! ;-) BTW, when you start knitting with that yarn, you have to start with the thread from the center, it should hang out from the top.

@Kyla: the shop owner Ewa makes about 10 skeins from each color, plus she makes yarn according to your preferences. She went through some trouble finding the right ply for this yarn (Cosmeea) - the bright pink one - so I'm not sure if she can still make some. Email her, maybe she can do something (I think she speaks English as well). And yes, lately she has stopped making summer yarns, summer has been really really badly here - maybe you heard of the floods in Bavaria. The rest of Germany hasn't been that bad, but still not good.

@Alison: I forgot to tell you that the yarn consists of several plies wool, cotton and polyamide. Oh, and did the eggs arrive ok?
Happy knitting!

Beautiful yarn! I feel an impulse buy coming on!

Posted by: Anna at August 30, 2005 5:45 PM

Gorgeous! Any chance we can get that sent to the USA?

Posted by: freecia at August 30, 2005 6:44 PM

Oh, what amazing yarn! It's going to make some gorgeous socks.

Posted by: Deena at August 30, 2005 6:45 PM

I NEED some of this yarn. I'm off to investigate some.

Posted by: Vicki at August 30, 2005 6:58 PM

OOhhhh. Nice yarn. Just as an FYI - my socks are from a pattern called Heatwave socks... although they do look close to Broadripples...

Can't wait to see which pair are mine!

Posted by: Cece at August 30, 2005 9:03 PM

Wow what an awesome update, thanks! That sock yarn from Germany is scrumptous. And I'm a sucker for cool tags/packaging so I would SO buy it just because of that cool tag.

Posted by: Carrie at August 30, 2005 11:16 PM

Wow! I'm impressed how many people are into this yarn! I decided to make another yarn swap, I've got a spare skein of this Cosmeea-yarn. Just give me a little time to figure out who to give it to!

I think that the Sockapaltwoza was in part my inspiration for this, so I had to let you know -

I need help getting the word out - I'm collecting knitted goods to take to the local group here in Houston coordinating the clothing drive. I've posted about it over on my site; the main thing I want to collect right now is baby bootees - it is hot down here. Plus they are fast to knit. Afterwards, anything is needed.

Thanks for your help in spreading the word!
