cable-licious

Katy.

This sweater was such hard work and yet a real surprise. After working so hard to bring in the neckline, set the sleeves in deeper, and narrow the sleeves, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the sleeves are nice and long and the body neatly cropped. I was also surprised by the chunky feel of the all-over cabling. It'll take a little getting used to, as I feel like I'm about five inches wider, but it's really just a more relaxed sort of fit than I'm used to. Of course the all seasons cotton is a delight to wear: soft, soft, soft. And the color is perfect for fall.

And I do so love those cables!

(Well, folks, I'm outie for now. See ya from the other side of the Atlantic in a few days!)

Hi Alison, In regard to your 'tech guys' socks; will you use 2 skeins for one pair of socks and do you have a favorite pattern for men's socks? They might be a perfect gift for someone on my list. Have a FANTASTIC trip! Looking forward to hearing all about it, Bonney

Posted by: Bonney at September 14, 2005 8:47 AM

You look great, also five inches wider :)

You look great in this sweater. No wideness at all! And the color is one of my favorites.

Posted by: Beth S. at September 14, 2005 9:33 AM

Who knew that that hmm colored bag of yarn could turn out so beautiful. You really did a great job, I hope that you get a lot of wear out of it this fall.

Posted by: Johanna at September 14, 2005 9:34 AM

It looks great! I did the vogue tennis sweater which is the same pattern and wish I had fixed the neckline like you have.

Posted by: Kate at September 14, 2005 9:35 AM

Wow! Your sweater is amazing...love the cables AND the color!

Posted by: Kim at September 14, 2005 9:35 AM

Katy is beautiful and beautiful on you ... I don't think you look wide at all

Travel safely, and have fun!

Posted by: Ruth at September 14, 2005 9:46 AM

You don't look wide, you look normal, like the rest of us. heh, heh. No really, it's just stunning! And I love all the things you did to it to make it more wearable - they would work well for me too. The chunky thing is just part of wearing cables, especially in cotton. You loove fabulous in it.

what a great fall sweater! and congrats on finishing one more project before leaving for germany.

have a safe trip!

Oh, just perfect! I love everything . . . (I know, I keep gushing about this sweater, but it's just that beautiful.)

Posted by: --Deb at September 14, 2005 10:19 AM

The sweater may feel bulky, but it certainly doesn't look it. It turned out great. I don't know if I tried to make that many modifications to a pattern that it would turn out so well. Have a safe trip, and enjoy Germany! (What area are you headed to?)

Posted by: Rachel at September 14, 2005 10:25 AM

You look fabulous in Katy! It fits you -- and flatters you -- perfectly. Enjoy the cabley coziness all fall and winter!

Posted by: Karma at September 14, 2005 10:41 AM

It's perfect! I didn't know you were leaving today. I hope you get your yarn in time.

Posted by: sharlyn at September 14, 2005 10:51 AM

Katy turned out so well! This is making me feel like I really need to finish the Debbie Bliss tennis sweater (basically the same pattern). And I heart the color - it's so...not run of the mill! Nice job.

What a cute sweater!! I love it, and it looks great on you.

You definitely do NOT look wider and the sweater looks wonderful on you! Stunning color choice and everything. Congratulations on finishing it! :)

Wow! Katy looks great. I'm not a fan of cotton in general, but I'll have to check out the ASC.
Safe travels.

LOVE those cables! Those are the same as the ones in my Cool Cagoule!

I dn't think you look wide at all. In fact, the silohuette it creates is quite nice. It looks fantastic!

Posted by: blossom at September 14, 2005 2:09 PM

I love your Katy! I love this pattern, but was turned off by the wide neck in the pattern book. I'm new to sweaters, and mathematically challenged, so it may be a while before I get to this sweater.

And, I love the color! It looks great on you.

Posted by: Jen at September 14, 2005 2:30 PM

Katy is a gorgeous sweater. I love it and the color looks great on you. Enjoy your trip.

Posted by: Wanda at September 14, 2005 2:34 PM

The sweater is great -- such a perfect autumn color! And while you might feel five inches wider, you look amazing -- slim and prettykins!

Posted by: Gina at September 14, 2005 4:44 PM

Katy looks great! I know what you mean about cabling making it seem like you are wider. My cable 8 feels like that too.

Have a safe and fun trip! :)

Fabulous! Have a great trip and see ya soon!

Posted by: Dava at September 14, 2005 6:40 PM

Very beautiful. And I know what you mean about loving cables. I am doing Rogue and just love them. I also started an Harry Potter bookscarf. Thanks for all the Harry Potter knitting links. I am also going to do some mini-Weasley's for Christmas.

Just wanted to let you know that I've received a pair of lovely socks from Ashley :)
AND I managed to send off the pair I've made to you-know-who, just on time. Pics of both pairs in my blog.

Have a great stay in Europe!!

Posted by: Helene at September 15, 2005 5:07 AM

That is a beautiful sweater. I have a thing for cables, too.

Posted by: kimberly at September 16, 2005 1:03 AM

It looks fantastic! And I love those cables... Don't think of them as adding pounds--it's all about cushy cuddly warmth that you'll appreciate when it's colder. Beautiful work as always, Alison!

Posted by: MJ at September 16, 2005 3:58 PM

Hi,

this wonderful sweater has inspired my new knitting project: View of the park from Cast On Summer 2005 is the project that I found when I coveted Katy. Cables: check, short: check, V-Neck: check. And I have a turquois yarn to knit it with. Yum. Lana Grossa's Big Merino is nice to work with. Thanks for the inspiration.
