weasley's weekly wizard wheezes

Looks like a lot of folks had a very merry Harry holiday!

Amanda finished a HiP scarf and made THE COOLEST gift label to wrap it up
Amanda made a Gryffindor hat for charity
Jeanne finished an Azkaban scarf for gifting
Jenn knit about a million holiday prezzies, including a HiP scarf
Katherine made a HiP tie gift
Sandy made a J weasley for the perfect Christmas present
and Shireen finished her X weasley for her niece!

And other Harry knits were spotted in progress:

Becky was working on a Slytherin PoA scarf
Caren started a gorgeous Hufflepuff scarf
and Cirilia's F weasley had to be put on hold to make time for holiday gift knitting

Now that I am practically done with my holiday knitting, I've started my Hermione mittens. This pattern is addictive!

Here's to a happy and healthy and Harry new year!

I bought the Hermione pattern, hoping to make them for my 9 year old niece. Do you have any suggestions (other than knitting on smaller needles) for adjusting the size? The part of the pattern that really surprised me is the length - are they really 11 inches long??? If so, do you think it would be possible to take out a pattern repeat, in addition to making the cuff shorter?

Thanks, and Happy New Year!

Janna, the mittens would be a lovely gift for your niece. Yeah, I would suggest using a finer yarn, so you can size things down a bit and then shortening the cuff and the number of rows before the thumb gusset gets going and before you divide for the thumb. And then taking out a repeat on the hand sounds like a good way to get rid of an extra couple of inches.

I'm curious to see how big mine come out!

Pretty! I really like the colors of the yarn.

Wow! The colors for the Hermione mittens are beautiful! The yarn would be the addicting part for me, I think! :) Can't wait to see them when they're completed!

I love how well your needles coordinate with your yarn! Very fun.

I plan to make the Hermoine hat and my Slytherin socks this month (once I get the ok to knit again). I'll pobably want to make the mittens too, they're lovely!

I sent you an email to join but just to cover all my bases - Could I join the Another Weasley Along?

Love the Herminone mittens. When I made the hat, I also improvised a Hermione purse. It turned out great, and I bought a fat quarter of Harry Potter fabric on Ebay to line it with--way cool. If I could figure out how to upload a picture here, I'd show you. Ah, well, you can use your imagination. :)

I have been reading your site for a while, and thought I should share a neat link to see which house you belong at Hogwart's Academy. Both my husband and I are Ravenclaws! Here is the link:
