Okay, it's not just the socks 'n' sandals in that pic. It's also those legs and those shorts!!! Germany is awesome, as far as I can tell.

Hi Alison,
I´ve been reading your blog for a while now, and saw that you are visiting Germany at the moment.
As I recognized some of the places you are talking about, I get the feeling that you are staying not to far away from Frankfurt.
In case you are still here on Friday and feel like getting to know some german knitters, you are very much invited to our little knitting-group which meets again on Friday 4th at 18.30 in Frankfurt, Berger Strasse. More details on our blog: http://meet-to-knit.blogspot.com/ . It would be great if you could make it!
Liebe Grüsse, Sabine
Oh those socks and sandals!! I thnk you've hit Germans right on the head with that one. Scary!
When I lived in Florida, we would get a lot of European tourists at the sandwich shop I worked at. We could always tell the Germans by their footwear!
Germany does look like fun; love the hats!
I had to laugh at the socks and sandals :) I love all the pictures! The boys look like they are having a ball!
I think you have to respect a country where socks and sandals are an acceptable combination. No wonder all the best commercial sock yarn comes from Germany!
Socks and sandals! You ARE on vacation!
I can't wear sandals without socks. It just doesn't feel right. It probably helps that my mother was German...
What´s with germans and their sandals! There's a lot of german tourists here in Sweden and I swear that 99% of them wear sandals. Except their choise of shoes though I've only had good times with Germans both here in Sweden and when visiting their lovely country. Maybe the sandal is their "national shoe" you now like other countries has flowers, animals etc etc?!
At least your family has a high likelihood of having hand knit socks.
Sounds fun!
'socks and sandals' bad habbits die hard, ha?
I am SO ENJOYING your vacation - Tks for taking the time to post these great pictures. You never let your viewers down.
What's wrong with socks and sandals? I do that all the time when it cools down a bit, or when my feet are so damaged that I dont want to show them off *grins*.
If you need an antidote to the "Fun" Germany, try looking into german politics. Its uuugly :-(
Wishing you a continued nice stay, from Flensburg in the northernmost Germany :)
Cute! Yeah, I really can't understand the Germans with their socks + sandals look. *blech*
You can get used to everything, I tell you. Even to American tourists with their white sneakers and pink polos. ;-)
Looks like fun! That climbing gym looks amazing! My dh would LOVE it. Me? I like to stay on the ground. *loL*
Oh, wow, it looks like so much fun. And I'm with Beth. You DO have to respect a country that wears their sandals with socks. ;0) When I met my German husband, he was wearing handmade from his mom. He said they were better than gold. I knew he was the match for me. Go Germany!! :0)
I *love* wearing socks with my sandals! It feels much more comfortable, not so sweaty and squishy. Sure, I get odd looks, since I'm not in Germany, but who cares? My 9 year old daughter is already starting to get embarrassed by her mom, and the socks n' sandals thing is the main trigger so far. Hey, it's in my blood--I'm half German!
