project rhinebeck

Gotta have a special project for the ride to Rhinebeck. And it's got to be a new project for the baby, right? And what could be more perfect for the baby than this pink/purple speckled Koigu?

Koigu P703

I'm making a simple garter stitch baby cardigan that we have as a store pattern. (It looks sort of like this Debbie Bliss Garter Stitch Jacket but in a finer gauge. I'm thinking of running a ribbon through it like Debbie Bliss does in this little matinee coat from her Baby Cashmerino 2 book.) Our sample is knit up in a yellowy-orange speckled Koigu and every week when I go to work, I think, that is just one cute infant sweater. So I caved.

I love the subtle pink hue behind all those fun purple blotches. And, of course, the occasional bright blue speckles are my favorites!

See you at Rhinebeck in my purple sweater, knitting the baby's purple sweater....

Is purple the new blue? :) Love that koigu!

[or perhaps since purple has blue in it, it counts as a blue. ;) ]

I LOVE that colorway - it looks so pretty knitted up... one of the many things I love about Koigu. Have lots of fun at Rhinebeck - take lots of pictures! :)

Love the yarn. I have a pair of socks I made out of it with some loverly pearlescent beads in them. It is my favorite pair of socks.

What number is that Koigu? I spend a lot of time peering at my pc screen and trying to decipher their colours but never quite get up the nerve to order in case the colours are wrong. That one looks lovely in all your pics.

...yes on the ribbon, need to break that monotony...i've made something similar from Quick Baby Knits for a collegue...2 years ago...I guess Debbie Bliess is monotenous...still I keep using her designs, even for just inspiration.
Pls. because I doubt i'll have the time can you make something for your daughter that is in a lovely bright color...like a Salmone orange or birght hot pink (don't even know that name for it)
Everthing you knit is gorgeous...but I just think the market is OVERWHELMED with baby pink and purple...I don't get what people see in this color...especially purple...(thier is only one shade I like of purple in small amounts ) ;-)
Yes, blue runs in my genetic coding.....My grandma, My mom and my self are all blue fanatics with variations.

I like your idea of having to have a new yarn for the ride. I understand. Hope to see pics of your "take" at Rhinebeck. Speckled Koigu is my new yarn love - yum, got some lime (521) rosey colors and some purply speckled Koigu. The blue tho, oooh -must get!

What beautiful colors in the baby jacket. I am sure you will have it finished in no time at all.

Yay for Rhinebeck!

You sexist Mom, you! (Kidding.) Just so you know ahead of time, Legos (or Lego look-alikes) now come in "girl" colors - aqua, pink, violet and white. The directions for things you can make with them are not fire engines or space ships; they are for baby nurseries and beauty parlors.......

I can't believe I didn't see you at all this weekend! Crazy. Sorry I missed you, lady. I would have loved to see you.

wow, rhinebeck must have been really good if you haven't posted yet! love the yarn, too.

Don't you worry, Orli, I've got lots of THOSE colors in my stash waiting to become baby things. And she'll get plenty of blue-ish, boy-ish hand-me-downs from the boys, so I've got no need to go out and buy any yarn in those types of shades either. What I really can't stand is that pinky, pink that seems to take over the closets of little baby girls. I'm trying to stay as far away from that as possible. So I though the speckled purple with pink undertones was pretty unique as far as pink and purple went.

Posted by: alison at October 26, 2006 12:22 AM

oh I know....you know one of the reason's i'm not into pink is because my mom told me her mother always dressed her in pink...so she developed an anti-pink attitude and allowed me to chose which ever color I wanted growing up, even if I didn't match my cloths. Some pinks are nice, just not all pink, all the time. Mind you, it will be hard not to buy that baby lot's of darling things, thier is so much more stuff out thier for little girls. Unique it is and since you are knitting it, it's gorgeous also!
