baby clothes

as always, check the project archive for pattern info

The vintage Großmutter sweater is all done! I simply adore it - it's just so sweet. I had the ribbon in my stash for some knitting project I wanted to make for myself a couple of years ago. It's much better put to use here in wee one's coming-home-from-hospital sweater.

When I was taking the picture, S first wanted to clarify that he wasn't going to try this knit on. "No, no, honey, I won't make you try this one on." Then he asked if the baby was going to have pants. I told him not to worry, we'd go buy some pants, and B jumped in to remind us that "girls like pants that are big and open on the bottom - like a skirt." Then B went to make a hat for the baby.

Doesn't it look just like a hat that Lola (from Charlie and Lola) would wear?! I love it! I think I'm going to have to knit one like this for wee one. From her big brother B.

Wow! Such a cute sweater!

He's right. Girls do love pants that are big and open at the bottom! So cute.

The sweater is absolutely beautiful.
What an amazing sentiment that hat would be from the boys! That would make a great story to tell her when they start picking on her in about 10 years!

Awww...that is the sweetest little sweater.

Posted by: sara at November 10, 2006 9:51 AM

Love the sweater!

That is a fantastic idea on the hat! What a treasure - a handknit hat by mom, designed by an older brother. You HAVE to do that one! She will treasure it always.

That sweater is sweet! I have a pattern very similar to that. That's a great idea for the hat.

Oh, how sweet! I love the ribbon details on little girl sweaters. And she has such sweet big brothers, too. Mind you, if my baby is a girl I'll probably be replicating Lola's entire wardrobe from the show because I love Charlie and Lola so much...

I love the idea that he designed a hat for his new baby sister-to-be, and that you will knit it!
And I love the shape. I see a designer in training....

EZ has some "leggings" in Knitter's Almanac that would go nicely with that adorable little sweater you just made. I love the little hat her Big Brother designed. Can't wait to see it knit up.

That is the sweetest sweater! I wish I had made sweaters for my girls to come in. It looks wonderful! And the pants like a skirt comment is hilarious. I'm going to go share that one with my husband. 8-) I enjoy your blog a lot!

The sweater turned out beautifully! I love it! BTW, you have to knit the hat and save his picture - maybe scrapbook his drawing with a picture of the knit hat inspired by same.

Posted by: Staci at November 10, 2006 9:38 PM

I love the little jacket..I have lots of patterns along those lines.....but I did find ribbons a bit of a pain with small babies....one small button maybe????

Posted by: anne at November 11, 2006 5:15 AM

OH, how sweet! The perfect sweater for your baby to wear home... she'll be the envy of the maternity ward!!!

Posted by: reluctantmango at November 11, 2006 9:47 AM

Now that would be quite a story to tell later on...and this hat here was designed by your older brother before you were even born.

Posted by: Tracey at November 11, 2006 6:06 PM

This is really beautiful. Oma is a whiz!
