i can eat it?

This is what the boys used to say when they were little and something looked colorful and yummy to them. (Thank goodness they would ask! Usually it'd be like paper or some sort of small choking hazard toy.) And it's all I can think of when I look at this Trekking yarn.

One front panel of wee one's Candace sweater done! I like the way the color sequence came out this time, with mostly brown and pink and cream and one little stripe of the orange near the top. The front panel took just over one complete color repeat, so that means that to make the second side match, I'll have to wind off pretty much a whole 'nother front panel's worth of yarn to start at the same point. I'm going to have some pretty weird leftovers after this one's done!

It's lovely! Isn't it fun to find other uses for sock yarn? :)

That does look good enough to eat!!! When he was a few months old my younger grandson would try to eat my hand knit socks - I guess he thought they looked good enough to eat.

it looks like that brachs candy i used to see as a kid. i think it had coconut in it.

it's darling!

I don't remember what kind of candy it is, but it looks just like that. Chocolate and coconut and pink (don't know). They are stacked like a sandwich. They are good. I used to get them all the time from the grocery store. Brach's makes them I think. Your colors make me want some!
Good enough to eat indeed.
:)

Beautiful sweater! I read a bit too fast and thought you had decided on Candace for wee one's name!

Posted by: Bonny at December 6, 2006 3:37 PM

hehe I was tricked by "Candace" for a minute too!!

Perfect for the Candace sweater to look like Candy!! YUM! Is that the high dollar discontinued Trekking colorway?

It's great!!! I love it.

Lovely!

It looks so wonderful! I'm curious... how do you plan to handle the back? Make it not match? Knit two panels and give it a center seam? I never thought about striping yarn in sweaters until just this very moment and now I want to know how it's usually handled.

Er... I just answered my own question by clicking over to the pattern.

I love the Bee's Knee's patterns! Candace will look adorable on your wee one.

Totally looks edible! *grin*

Those colors make me think strawberry and cream, and chocolate chip ice-cream! Yum!

Posted by: Emy at December 7, 2006 1:25 AM

Looking great Alison. I usually knit a sleeve next so there's not so much waste when matching the stripes. Quite often after the first sleeve is done I'm quite near the beginning of the pattern repeat for the other cardigan front. Hopefully it will be the same for you too!

I love the pink and chocolate but not the orange. :/

And it totally does looks like Brach's candy...too funny.

Posted by: Michelle at December 7, 2006 6:24 AM

Mmmmm. Neapolitan ice cream is what I first thought. The orange kinda spoils it though. It's gonna be a really fun sweater!

Including the winding off of excess yarn, how many balls of yarn do you think it will take?

Posted by: Maggie at December 7, 2006 9:16 AM

Maggie, I think most of the Bees' Knees patterns are written to use just one 100g ball of sock yarn (like Opal or Regia). The back is usually done in the contrast color, so the patterned sock yarn is really just being used for the fronts and the sleeves. I should have plenty in my 100g ball to finish those 4 parts, even with the winding off of excess yarn.

Mmmmm. Very neopolitan!
