opening day

Today is Red Sox opening day and everyone at the boys' school is wearing their Red Sox gear! (Note to self: Get wee one some Red Sox gear.) (Note to master webmaster: Do not even think of sending some sort of Yankee onesie up here for her!) They're collecting money at the school for the Jimmy Fund, the Red Sox long-time official charity supporting Dana Farber cancer research and the Jimmy Fund Children's Clinic. The boys brought in their dollars and wore their shirts proudly. And baby L and I just finished reading Faithful (the Stephen King, Stewart O'Nan book about the 2004 season when the Sox won the World Series) while nursing, so we're psyched! Go Sox!

And since it's opening day, how 'bout I open up sockapalooza sign-ups later today? My master webmaster has a few small changes to make (hope he'll still help after the Yankees comment above!) and then we should be able to go live later this evening. Don't worry, sign-ups will be open for at least a day, probably two, so you don't have to keep refreshing this page all day long. But if you do, maybe just consider going on over to the Jimmy Fund site and giving 'em a couple of bucks to help fight cancer, 'kay?

Exciting--opening day and Sockapalooza!

Posted by: Stacie at April 10, 2007 10:08 AM

Yay for Sockapalooza!

My husband is a huge Red Sox fan. Our boys have tons of RS t-shirts and sweatshirts. No Yankee stuff here!

Posted by: Sheri at April 10, 2007 10:08 AM

whoo hoo! i can't wait. I'm going to have to go check out the Jimmy fund, even though I am a WHITE SOX fan.

Posted by: erin at April 10, 2007 10:09 AM

Go Sox!
My children are clothed the same way, as I expect are most of the kids in the Greater Boston area.
The Jimmy Fund is really wonderful; one of the most efficient charities ever. (Did you grow up around here when they used to show a promo before movies and then the ushers would go around and collect $?)
We also love Curt Schilling and his Strike Out ALS charity since we have a good friend with that horrible disease.
Hey Webmaster- I think this will be a really fun Red Sox/Yankees year!

Red Soxs! My 10 year old boy cousin's favorite team is the Mets, but he loves Dice-K, so when he was in Boston a few days ago he dragged us all to every sports store we could think of in search of a jersey. I'm kind of flummoxed that they all cost around $60, though. Bah!

Go Sox has a whole other meaning here in the Chicago area! The Red Sox winning gave hope to us Cubs fans - maybe this is "next year" for us!

Posted by: Donna at April 10, 2007 10:48 AM

Oh yes - my older daughter graduated from Boston U - within the shadow of Fenway Park so to speak. Are there any other old parks remaining besides it & Wrigley Field (home of the Cubs)? Baseball is not the same in the shiny new ones.

Don't you all mean go YANKEES!!

*runs away so as not to get attacked*

Posted by: Joanna at April 10, 2007 11:00 AM

I'm a transplanted Bostonian in NYC and a proud Red Sox fan!! We wear our baseball caps whenever we can.

GO SOXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

You can take the girl out of Boston, but you can't take the Boston out of the girl.

Posted by: moirae at April 10, 2007 12:34 PM

Woohoo! They should make opening day at Fenway at least a state holiday.

Posted by: Lynne aka Witchypoo at April 10, 2007 12:35 PM

Thank you so much for supporting childhood cancer research and support. My daughter is treated at Johns Hopkins but we have plenty of friends that are treated in Boston as well. Thanks.

It's today! It's today!:-)

Go Sox! Our family is from Boston. Not only do we have a plethora of clothing that celebrates the team and its players -- including a "B" logo sweater that I knit for my mom -- we also have RemDawg t-shirts! (For those outside of Red Sox Nation, RemDawg is Jerry Remy, the longtime Sox announcer...)

I live out in Seattle but when my sister went to Tufts for grad school I broke down and, painful though it was, bought her a Bo Sox hat so she could "fit in" with the natives- it was kind of a joke gift but she wore it almost everyday :)

Posted by: Katie at April 10, 2007 2:29 PM

I am primed and ready - woo hoo!

Posted by: Sonya at April 10, 2007 2:42 PM

Yay for special days and yay for special charities! :)

Posted by: Laura at April 10, 2007 2:42 PM

Yeah!

At work they had the Sox up on a huge plasma TV with the subtitles rolling across the bottom. There were a fair number of people taking a late lunch today.

Go YANKEES!!! WOOHOO!! Jeeter. Need I say more? :P
I'm still trying to figure out Sockapalooza, once I do, I'll probably sign up... :D

I've lost your email address, so I'll send this as a comment. In honor of opening day for all Sock(x)s involved, I’ve posted a free pdf of my basic knee socks to my blog. I’ve rated it as good for beginners knowing knit and purl and who are up for the challenge of reading a chart for the short-row toes and heels. It’s written toe up for size small (56 st), medium (64 st), and large (72 st) and details how to work short rows and how to execute EZ’s sewn bind off. Can’t wait for sign ups!

Um...

Atlanta=braves, but red sox are a second cuz I wanna do grad school in Boston.

*smiles*

Your boys are adorable!

Posted by: Chelsey at April 10, 2007 7:34 PM

Yes please. Open up sign ups later today. Sockapalooza is the highlight of my year.

Posted by: Helen at April 10, 2007 10:36 PM

I'm practically bouncing around the internet, trying to wait patiently for sign-ups to open!!!!

Posted by: Janine at April 10, 2007 11:02 PM

Me too! I was so sorry I missed out last time, but I am really looking forward to this goround!

Posted by: Emma at April 10, 2007 11:12 PM

lol Sox and sockapalooza...I really wanted to join this sockapalooza, I love the sockapalooza...but [sigh] to many commitments to little time I'll have to forgo this one as well.
i'm really trying to get the cardigan for my son done and I now have to put my own Opal socks aside because I went to my LYS looking for inspiration for a baby being born in July...and she sold me on to knitting a BLANKIE...GASP...
now the baby is due 25 July...so I know I will not be able to make the socks in time. it takes me a while to get socks done. Sorry.
I will write my SIL Andrea who did sockapalooza3 and see if she'd like to join again.

Go Sox!! When I was a kid I wanted to rebel against my mother (a huge Toronto Blue Jay's fan) so I chose to choose for a team, any team, that wasn't the Blue Jays. It so happened that the day I chose they were playing against the Red Sox and from then on I cheered for the Red Sox. I haven't watched baseball for years, but I still have my Red Sox shirt (from the late 80's) that I love to wear around the house. Maybe this year I'll start watching baseball again ...
