yes oh yes cool

For this week's peek at the kids, the boys at play.

Their favorite activity these days is playing this "game" on the computer where you solve little puzzles Rube Goldberg style by building wacky contraptions. My old (old!) computer came with a game called the Incredible Machine that hubby and I loved to play before the kids were born. About a year ago, we introduced the boys to the thing and they raced through those puzzles in no time! This one is even cooler (the boys' words, not mine) because it has lots of bombs and explosions.

In both games, once they solve all the puzzles, they can invent their own contraptions and save them. The boys have over fifty contraptions saved on this game already. They'll build for a half hour or so and then when it's time to save, they'll call out something like, 'how do you spell explode?" Just check out these great names!

I forget how old your boys are but my 7 and 4 year old really enjoy the "I Spy" computer games. No blowing things up but a certain amount of learning to read involved.

I'm definitely planning on checking out the machine games that you mentioned! Thanks! - jill

You just left out one little detail inquiring minds want to know. What is the game? Please, do tell.

Very cool. That looks like a game my hubby would enjoy.

Follow the link, Charlene for more info. It's called Crazy Machines: The Wacky Contraptions.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooop is my favorite. Your boys are wonderful!

Oh, that killed me. "yes oh yes" it did. So funny...

My sister and I would play "The Incredible Machine" all the time-- and yes, I know what you mean by "old" (it only runs on Windows 3.1!). The funny thing is that my sister and I were just talking about this game and how fun it was but that neither one of us could remember what it was called. Thanks! :)

....and if you want to revisit some REALLY old games, try this site:

It's just like sitting in front of an old Apple II again.

Love #29... oh man.

I'm with Katherine. Several of the names brought a smile or chuckle but, when I got to nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, I had to laugh out loud.

That is soooooo cute! :)

I used to teach The Incredible Machine at computer camp. And then I got hooked on Contraptions (an updated version). This looks like the next step for my computer lab! Have you tried Grubby Games' Professor Fizzwizzle series? It is a total hit with my 8 and ups at school.

Yes, Jill, the boys (6 1/2, by the way) also have the I Spy computer games. They loved the first two (Fantasy and Mystery) but are now "too afraid" of the Spooky Mansion one to do it. Silly boys!

Those names are great! They made my husband and I both laugh.

Funny, funny names! Aren't kids just amazing? I am routinely blown away by the stuff my kids come up with. When my older son was six, he asked if he could go play in the driveway because he wanted to calculate the rotation of the earth. Half an hour later, he informed me that the earth rotates 15 degrees an hour. He had used a pencil stuck in a piece of styrofoam to make a sundial and then placed a protractor so the shadow fell across it. He watched it for half an hour and noted that the shadow moved seven and a half degrees, meaning the earth rotates 15 degrees an hour. Which it does. Astounding.

What a cool looking name!

My DBH spent hours playing Incredible Machines. Then he got our nine y o interested.

Suzanne V., it sounds like your son is gifted.
