marching on
The quilting marches on.

Look at the little quilt squares all lined up like little soldiers in a row. One more seam on all of them and they transform into...

... butterflies! These were the pieces for a teeny mini-quilt I made for B based on the the quilt square he designed in school. He wanted me to make 9 blocks so he could see the purple triangles come together in the middle to make diamonds.

Math is cool. Heck, quilting is cool. Today when I dropped him off at school, he actually read the class' copy of The Quiltmaker's Journey to me! (Very pretty book and very sweet.)
My own journey of quilting a block a month continues apace. I finished my two blocks for February just in time to pick up the March ones.

And as it is already March, that means that Sew Mama Sew's quilting month is sadly at an end. I do have one new project from the quilting frenzy last month that will keep me busy for a while still, a colorful cartwheel quilt.

I couldn't resist these fun polka dots from P&B Textiles' Pop Parade line when I saw them and was only waiting for an equally fun pattern to use them in. When they featured this fabulous quilt as the quilt of the day, I thought that would be just right for my fun polka dots! I have a good start with 20 blocks already completed, but I've got at least 10 or 20 more to make and some tricky maths to do to figure out how to arrange them.
Hmmm, perhaps I should ask B for help with that!

it's the bom!
I just found quilting a few months ago and salivate every time you post whatever you're doing, quilt-wise. And knitting wise too.
I love the Card Trick block! And the polka dot fabric is so fun! I agree, the cartwheel pattern is perfect for showing them off.
I really enjoy all your projects you're sharing these days! An inspiration to be sure!
I love the card trick & the pinwheel ones - I guess I'm a modern girl! :) I am so impressed with your sewing abilities - you are doing great!!! and I love that your boys are getting into it to hehehe :)
Oooh, I really like the Card Trick. I think it is the vibrancy of the orange that just sucks me in.
These are all really beautiful! So colorful, fun, and fabulous!!! :)
I love how your card tricks came out!
That "card trick" block has me absolutely mesmerized... awesome choice of colors, too!
Thanks everyone for the compliments on the card trick block! I can't take any credit (or blame!) for the fabric selection in the two block-of-the-month blocks though. That was all decided by my lqs that's running the program. The blocks from last year's bom quilt really do have stunning colors though. This year's uses more traditional, country sorts of fabrics, although I do find myself liking them sewn up much more than I had expected. That being said, I have to tell you that the March block has some fabric in it with chickens all over it which I cannot abide. I've made an executive decision to nix that one fabric and sub something a bit prettier for it. ;0)
Oh, the polka dot one is excellent!
This quilting madness is making me really really jealous. I *can* sew, but not that well, and I never really enjoyed it that much.
So, on the list of things to do:
Knitting. Oh, the joy of present-making, and the new Knitty, and tons of other projects.
Learning to crochet. I tried, Christmas two years ago, and my family laughed at me because it came out all wonky. So I put the hook down and never tried again. I'm dying to crochet an afghan, though...
Quiliting. It's intriguing.
Wow Alison you leave me speechless. Your sewn stuff looks so perfect and it seems you are quilting for some years. My stuff never turns out that perfect.
Liebe Grüße
Sibylle
Wonderful eye candy!
Almost as good as the sockapalooza, ummm nah.
Comes pretty close though. The card trick blocks caught my attention right away.
Is B following the progress of his quilt?
I'm ooohin and aaahing over those straight sewn edges. When people casually say it's just a straight line, I think, yes but I was never able to get my lines very straight. It didn't matter that there was a guide next to the needle, it always seemed to slip on me.
I'm gobsmacked at your production! How do you get so much done and still have it sewn so perfectly and chosen so creatively? Do you sedate your children?
I want to make a cartwheel quilt too! (But it won't happen, with everything else I have going on. *sigh*)
wow I love the "Card Trick" block.
