oooh, a new dress

Look, I have a new dress.

I feel like a big girl now.

Notes from mommy: pattern - smockie from the second little Sublime handknit book (free pattern here); yarn - cashsoft dk (3 balls for the 1-2 yr. size); modifications - worked all garter stitch (edging and bodice) in a US3 needle and shortened the bodice by one inch. This was a quick knit, from casting on to trying on in two weeks. With the decrease in needle size on the straps and the one-row edging along each side of the straps that the pattern calls for, I'm not too worried about the top stretching out and becoming a problem. It's definitely a pattern I'd make again for wee one or as a gift for another little girl. And best of all, wee one seems to like it and it suits her very well. I think purple may be her color!

Great dress! Is her hair really that red or is it just the light? If she is a red head watch out! I have one and that red head personality will keep you on your toes!

What a cutie! And, what an awesome little dress!

Oh!It's so cute!! You have inspired me to make one for my little one year old. Thanks for sharing what you discovered as you knit this up. I will be taking that into consideration.
I just saw on another blog (that is in spanish, but has pictures) that this gal is making dolls like you made for your wee one. Here's the link if you want to see what she made:

Aw! Her eye is looking all better! I'm working on a similar dress for my 14 month old, hoping to finish it this spring, so cute!

Thanks for noticing, Bertha. The eye is doing better. She's got a gross little cold though and so is still pretty icky (note the drool/snot wet patch beneath her chin!) but the eye thing was luckily short-lived.

Oh, that is so cute! Looks great on her, too. Go, Mommy!

The first time I started reading your blog I stopped because there was a bit too much kid talk for me (not a criticism, just not what I was looking for). I added you back to my google reader a couple months ago when someone said you were their favorite. I have to say that now your kids are one of the favorite part of my blogosphere. Not really sure why I was ever turned away in the first place as you have a fabulous blog all around. I love the new dress, and wee one looks quite adorable as always.

So cute! You must just be loving getting to knit little girly things. I love my boy, but his dad won't let me put him in pretty dresses like that.

That dress is perfect, Alison.

Is it one of the ones she'll be able to wear when she's older?

Posted by: Anita at March 19, 2008 12:20 PM

Cute - and pink eye gone, yes? It really is adorable.

Oooooo, that is so cute! I have some lovely bamboo/cotton yarn in a gorgeous shad of aqua that would look great on baby M. Think I'll start it right now!

So cute! And look how much hair she has now!

If she's anything like my girls, she'll insist on wearing it until it's tunic length, and then like a vest. Hee.

Oh gosh! That's too cute! I know two people who are having babies, but I don't know if they're boys or girls yet! I can't wait to find out to start knitting little outfits!!

Its adorable. The purple looks beautiful on her. Of course, I am sure she would look beautiful in anything.

How about a matching hat?

I meant to say that Wee One does indeed look great in purple. It is also my middle child's favorite color (I am knitting him a purple dinosaur - a long neck). For those who are interested, IK is having Knitted Babes on sale 25% off on their website for one week only.

Thanks for the tip, Donna!

I meant to say purple is my middle GRANDchild's favorite color. Would be hard to have a middle child when I only have 2 DD's 8-)
