hike!

The itty bitty football hat (from Itty-Bitty Hats of course) now has a friend: it's an itty bitty football! I sort of tweaked my golden snitch ball pattern from Charmed Knits, spacing out the increases and decreases a bit more and voila, a football. And I stuck a little bell inside with the stuffing so it's like a baby rattle. (This was all Seanna Lea's idea by the way, left in the comments when I first posted about the hat. Brilliant, thanks!! Oh, and as you can see, I went with no pompom on the hat - thank you everyone for your opinions.) Now hat and football are on their way to new baby boy.

But before they go, and just because you gotta see how cute this helmet-style cap looks on a baby, wee one will model the football hat for you.

Isn't that the cutest thing? If she were a boy....

Heh..I love her expression. Sort of "Ok, Mom...are we done now?" When did she get to be 13?

Very cute set. The bell in the football is a great idea.

Adorable! (Both hat and baby)... Now I know what to knit for my nephew's (soon-to-be-born) baby boy.

OMG! I don't think I've ever seen anything more adorable

Why not for a girl? She looks adorable, and could be the next football / rugby star!

If she were a boy, whatever. It's adorable anyway! And little girls who play football grow up to be strong assertive teens and women, and it is AWESOME.

So cute! I love the rattle, too.

What's wrong with football helmet hats for girls?

Adorable & Wee One is such a cute model! And, by the way, I think little girls do play football in some locales. My younger daughter (who was in the 10th percentile for height & 5th percentile for weight - so TINY) would come home from kindergarten repeatedly with her white winter jacket all scuffed up & dirty. I was washing it every week. So I finally asked her what on earth she could possibly be doing to get her coat so dirty & she confessed that, before school started (they were bused) in the am, she was playing tackle football on the asphalt playground with the boys - ranging from 1st to 6th grade. For years she wanted to play football when she grew up & didn't understand why she couldn't.

I love the little football. The little pointed ends and the stitching really make a huge difference.

Awww, she looks like you in this picture!

So sweet!!!! :)

She does look 13 there, Sarah.

Another vote for cute, cute and cute.

Don't discount a (very cute) football hat for a girl! We have a girl's touch football league out here, and it is incredibly fun.

The yarn looks fabulous - so soft.

That is the look my son gives me when I make him try on pink ponchos. Your children are absolutely precious. Love the hat and all the inspirations.

Look at that face. That hat is cute.

I'm totally making one for my little girl when I have one someday. She'll need the proper gear when she watches the Pats with Mommy. Nothing wrong with a football hat for a girl!

Posted by: Chrissy at April 12, 2008 6:48 PM

Oh, she ROCKS that football hat! No one would think she is a boy. I LOVE football. I'd put a girl in that anyday!

Funny, when you put a boy's hat on her, all of a sudden she looks *just* like her brothers. Very well done!
