placket neck sweaters
I'm turning more to these 'noncolours' for gifts for my sophisticated young friends. Don't expect something as bright as the crazy pooling sweater to sit quietly in a drawer or basket. It's brightness is burned on the retina.
Love the color! Glad you aren't giving up on the other though. I look forward to see how it turns out in the bright colors too.
Great idea. I think they will both look good.
Hmm, I like this one a lot more than the other one. Crazy pooling sweater might have been too much... Maybe as crazy pooling socks instead? That could be really cute!
I absolutely love variegated yarns in the skein--the brighter the better. I'm like a bumble bee, irresistibly drawn to them. But then I start knitting and my retinas start to sting and the pooling makes me itch (not symmetrical...not symmetrical...) and I end up stuffing the project in the back of the closet. I am finally, finally starting to learn my lesson, but it's taken a long, long time!
I've used the bright variegateds in fair isle sweaters as the design against a calm background. It tends to break up the pooling but adds a spark that wouldn't be there if the design was worked in a solid color. This one is my favorite:

They're both very nice, but I'll lay odds that your little one prefers the BRIGHT version!
As others have commented, I am drawn to the sorts of varigated yarns like you used to swatch the "crazy pooling" sweater on the skein. I may even own some of the same Lorna's Lace in sock weight. Knitted up, I prefer the mauve-y grey. It looks very Debbie Bliss to me and your Wee one's face will be the focus. Very sophisticated.
Here's what I've found in knitting for my little girl, who is now 5. Varigated yarns seem to work best in clothing on children, such as my DD or your Wee One. Because it's not a lot of fabric, the pooling doesn't seem to be all that overwhelming. It makes for a very cheery, quirky fabric that only the really young can pull off with great aplomb! :)
I think Wee One will look great in both sweaters. The mauve will make for a good "dressy" look, while the bright varigated one is perfect for playing at the park.
PS: I made a sweater for DS the Eldest (14 yo) in Bernat Camoflague. I would have liked a little more uniformity in the pooling, but he loves it and wears it as often as possible.
I like this one way better.
I don't mind color pooling as long as it does it consistently...which that bright doesn't appear to do.
I also think it'll be TOO bright for your daughter. Maybe if she had dark hair and darker skin, she could handle the intense colors, but since she's so fair, I think you need to stick with one bright color or go with a more subdued color.
I could see brights in a cute swing camisole toned way down with a white T & white legging short under it on her.
Chicken!
(I am also variegated-a-phobic.)
Wee One may be starting to get preferences too! By this winter, she definitely will.
If you do them both, see which one she goes for!
ahhhh... you can never go wrong with BOTH!
she is, after all, a girl! :D
