girly girl

I thought I wasn't a girly girl. I thought I wasn't going to have one of those girly girls. And yet, my daughter went to drop off her brothers at school this morning wearing her pink emli bonnet and her sparkly pink bolero. And then, she came home and put on this little number I just made for her.

Oh yeah, it's a tutu. A year and a half and I'm already at pink tulle. Oh my. This was actually just practice for her Halloween costume, which will involve a longer tutu. I'd read a few how-to's and tutorials that suggested that these things were easy to make, so I thought I'd give it a trial run. My girl could always use a pink tutu. I bought a couple of rolls of pink tulle online, cut up my strips while the boys were brushing their teeth for bed, then turned on Top Gear (cause that's the kinda girl I am) and made a tutu. I knotted and knotted and it transformed itself into this perfectly frilly pink thing of beauty.

Can you see wee one's hand caressing it? I'm not sure she even knew what it was at first, but she knew she liked it. I asked her if she wanted to put it on and she jumped right in.

Yes, she was a natural.

So, it was a huge success. I have succeeded in making a tutu (Halloween plans still on) and the forces of nature have succeeded in turning me into a girly girl (gender stereotypes will out).

I love that last photo! You have quite the little ballerina there :)

Isn't it something how little girls "just know" that pink and purple and fluff and jewels and bling are COOL!

I think the girly-girl thing skips a generation . . . my mom was definitely a girly-girl, and neither myself nor my grandmother are. Also, my sister-in-law is not girly at all, but her mom and her daughter are both the girliest girls who ever did girl.

Congratulations! The tutu looks great. My daughter wanted me to sew her a sleeping beauty dress, but I found one at the mall and leaned on her til she gave in. Sewing Halloween costumes for three girls and my husband seemed like too much this year!

Top Gear and Tutus is exactly the kind of girl I am, too!!! How great that there are more of us out there!

She is starting to look a lot like her brothers... well not with the tutu obviously!

There's a children's book called "All tutus must be pink". Look it up at your local library.

My girls LIVE in their tutus! I made two for each of them this summer, and it's one of the best things I could ever have done for my girly girls!

I have never been accused of being a girly girl (neither has my mother), but I did have a tutu. It was an old dance school costume (age 5) and I often played with my Tonka trucks wearing it. Go figure. ~ksp

She looks adorable!

My mom made me a tutu one Halloween... 40 years later, I still remember it! Good for you, making all three costumes every year... you're amazing!

I was a VERY girly girl until I was about seven - I only wore dresses, I made my mom "do" my hair every day (even though she hates doing hair, ha), I wore little-girl gloss for makeup, the works.

Now? I rarely wear makeup, the hair is pretty much left to fend for itself, and while I still love pink and looking pretty, my "girly girl" stage is definitely over. :D

The tutu I made didn't stick to my now 15 year old daughter. But I can still dance.

She looks so cute! I think Dolly needs a matching tutu. :)

Awww - lucky girly girl to have such a creative Mom like you to make her fun pink things. Enjoy every minute of it - she's so adorable and happy. Love those smiles. I can almost hear some giggles in those pictures.

The pink and purple phase seems so inevitable, but possibly transient. There's just no fighting the power of our genetic heritage!

Awww she is adorable, and now I want to make one for my lo and she is only 8 months old. It would make a wonderful costume.

She's a cute girly girl!

And with two brothers, I predict in a couple of years she plays some ball! (And so what if she plays in a tutu?)

Adorable. Embrace the girly-girl ;)
