almost dolly

Yesterday, while I was snapping pics of her in her new turtle top, wee one was, as usual, carrying her dolly around. At one point, she even insisted that I take a picture of dolly. She laid her down on the floor where I always lay out my knitting for pictures and then stood over by me behind the camera and pointed at her. How could I say no?

Little did wee one know that her new dolly is almost done. When she took her nap, I pulled out dolly number 2 for a quick comparison photo.

Wowza. Old dolly totally looked just like that. Once. Well, here's hoping that new dolly, when she's all done, will become just as loved and just as dirty as old dolly.

(Wait, wasn't the point of this whole thing to get the dolly clean?)

I have my childhood teddy bear in a box under my bed. I'm the youngest of five, and my mom was a big believer in hand-me-downs, so it went through several kids before me. She claims it was once white and pink. I don't recall that in my life, but it is now solid dark beige with most of the fur worn off, no nose or mouth, and broken green plastic eyes. The wind-up music box inside still works. I am 39 years old and that bear has been with me my whole life and traveled all over the world with me (including Germany, Russia, Israel, a canoe down the Colorado River, rappelling in Utah, skiing in Italy...). May Dolly be equally loved and cherished for many, many years to come.

Dolly is so gross! Eeew. That is going to be one dirty tub of bath water!

Oh wow! Old dolly certainly has been loved! How cute of her to want her dolly included in the pictures! So sweet.

aawww! the true test of whether a toy is loved - taking pictures of it! hahahaha that is too cute. I'll have to make my peanut a little dolly or something too! hhmmm, I'll have to find a cute book or pattern for something just right... ;)

That story is just so cute. There is something terribly appealing to me about a dolly with a dirty face - guess 'cause it looks so well loved. My granddaughter loves her baby dolls (even the little witch she got from McDonald's is a "baby doll") & she always has at least one & usually a couple & her Pinky (her Build a Bear pink leopard: http://tinyurl.com/42c9py) & at least a couple of books when she goes to bed. She moved into her "big girl" bed a couple of months ago & now I sleep in the matching twin when I spend the night. It gets crowded in my bed when she wakes up in the night & they all climb in bed with me (but I love it!)

I loved my yellow teddy bear, Susie, till her tummy went bald. She is in the basement in a wicker suitcase and I am now 45 with 2 teenagers. Neither believed in the magic within their toys. My daughter carted around a pink basketball. Sigh.

It's always nice seeing something handmade being so well loved!

As for old dolly, how do you plan to clean it?

Just one cautionary note. When my daughter was little she had a much loved dolly 9(Emmy). It was once lost at her grandparents home (Several states away) so we immediately went out and got her a replacement. A few days later the original dolly arrived in the mail. When my daughter saw both dolls she was thrilled that Emmy had a twin. She insisted on carrying both dolls around thereafter.

You know, Debbie, I was just thinking about that situation. I mean, wee one has twin brothers. She'd probably love twin dollies!

We'll see what happens....
