is that a flower on your head? seriously, is it?

This is a silly hat.

Flower Toggle Hat from Lucinda Guy's Handknits for Kids

It looks super sweet in the pattern picture in the book, but in real life that flower on top is a little strange. Sometimes it looks like a flower to me. Sometimes like a periscope. Or a cyclops eye. Or sometimes like some sort of weird underworld creature, all mouth and tongues.

No, no, don't be silly, it's a flower. It's a flower. The hat itself is certainly pretty enough. The textured garter stitch/rib pattern is lovely and the Debbie Bliss pure cashmere is so soft in delicate shades of purple and pink. I like it. I do.

The hat reminds me of that cartoon from the 80s, The Snorks. But it is really cute too.

All I could think of was the Snorks too! Adorable either way!

Never heard of the snorks, but after googling it, you are SO right! Ha ha! :D

How funny would it be to paint a ping pong ball to look like and eye and stuff it in there! ha ha

The hat is cute. The sweet girl is cuter.

The hat looks great on her. The purple and pink are truly her colors.

Maybe you should use your new crochet skills to add a smaller simpler flower to the top of wee one's hat.

Leave the i-cord and try this:
Ch 4 and use a slip stitch to join the chain.
*ch 2, 2 double crochet into the ring, chain 2, join with a slip stitch to the ring* one petal made. Repeat 4 more times for a 5 petal flower. Just yank each petal back to ensure enough room.

This is just my humble opinion. Quick and easy.

Thanks Lauren. I'll try a flower on its own and see how I like it!

Wee One is soooo cute, and the hat is darling! I like it just the way it is.

She looks so cute in her new hat

Posted by: lori at February 24, 2009 1:25 PM

She is darling and so is the hat. Its the joy of being young. You can wear anything with abandon and imagination.

What a sweet hat and what an adorable model! I'm nominating you for a Kerativ Blogger award just check my blog for details.

I would probably pick up and knit some stitches from the inside of the flower and see if I can make pistil and stamen. Just to enhance the flowery look of it all.

I think in looks rather Dr. Seuss. Cute!

Posted by: Mary (NC) at February 24, 2009 3:47 PM

It is a little Seussian. But that is a darling look on a kidlet. Especially one as cute as wee one.

You could crochet more petals on the edges. Or put long fringe inside to trail out, just for fun. (But I think it's cute like it is!)

You could try a flower out of Nicky Epstein's knitted flowers book. There are some pretty ones in there, but if it were me, I'd leave it. It's adorable like it is!

It's a very "Suessical" hat. Makes your little one look like Cindylou Who. It certainly looks like she likes it and that's what really counts. Very cute, thanks for sharing it.

It's a Dr. Seuss hat! The flower definitely looks like some sort of antenna or something.

The hat reminds me of something you would see in a Dr Suess book! Its so cute!!!
