march 2, 2009

it's cold outside, but I've got the month of may

With shells on an orange beach. And butterflies.

This sweater for wee one kept me sane last night while we awaited yet another snow storm. It's all white and wet out there now and the boys are home for a snow day. Having spent the evening with my lovely, happy yarn, I may just be able to muster the strength to go out in the snow with them later. (With wee one too, as she is now as active as ever after her fever came down Friday night.) The bright bright yarn is keeping me so cheery in fact that I reworked these first few inches of the crochet section three times without complaint after a few failed attempts with gauge problems. Thank goodness for small, orange, yarny pleasures!

I love this color so much, and I am not usually into orange, that I am considering knitting a orange sweater to my baby on the way :-)

That is so cheery looking. Just spoke with my mate (he calls me every day just after lunch for some reason) & he said that all the SSA offices in the Boston region are closed because you got 18" of snow. Not much snow here but still very cold. Before I got a chance to start orange sweater for Baby M, I was waylaid by the latest (spring) issue of Twist Collective. They have a very cute baby girl's dress (largest size is 24 months but I'm sure I can just lengthen it for my skinny granddaughter) but what distracted me most was the absolutely adorable sunflower doll with clothes - we are taking the train from Chicago to the Bay Area (53 hours if on time which is unlikely). So I'm thinking if I can get the body of the doll knit & stuffed before we leave, I can knit an extensive wardrobe on the train. I am currently still working on the never ending alpaca socks - I suppose I'll finish them just in time for warm weather 8-]!

Donna, that new Twist Collective is very pretty. The baby dress is so sweet - why not just lengthen it? But I agree that the best is the sunflower doll - sooo cute! Thanks for recommending it. :)

Yes, I bought both of those patterns & plan on buying Marnie MacLean's pattern when I get back. It is really great - should flatter just about any size or shape of woman. You know - Twist Collective always has such great patterns - way better than any print mag - I predict they'll be around for a long time.

Ooh. I didn't need to know that the latest Twist Collective is out. I can never get to all of the patterns currently on my plate with all of the new ones being added every couple of months!

I agree with the first poster, that is a beautiful shade of Orange, and i'm really not an orange person.

Glad Wee One is OK. Your hopeful, love-filled knitting was the charm. I wouldn't understand your snow aversion, but we had our own dump last week. It is a blessing the kids still love it.

That is one pretty piece of knitting (and crocheting). Wee one is so lucky to have a knitting mama making lovely things for her! Enjoy the snow, if possible.

The crochet part looks like it's coming out very nicely. I don't think my first attempts would look anything like that!

Glad Wee One is back to her sunny self, and yay to you for plunging into quite the crochet edging, apparently! The sweater looks great, and a perfect snow antidote.
