and we're off!

take us here!
Thursday night we packed up, got ourselves to the airport and flew to Germany!

The flight didn't take off until 10pm, so the kids had to relax a little with their blankies in the waiting area at the gate. Amazing how necessary those three little pieces of wool have become to those kids.

B was lucky enough to have an empty seat beside him and fell asleep first
B & S, who are practically professionals at flying across the Atlantic, had no trouble nodding off within an hour or so of take-off. Wee, however, held out for a good three hours before she succumbed at around 1am.

I am not sleepy and I will not go to bed
It was the first time I didn't bring any knitting with me on a plane trip. I felt almost guilty about it, but I knew there'd be no chance I'd get to knit. We all, very sensibly, slept as much as we could, although I must admit to staying up a bit longer than I should have watching the new Star Trek. And everyone was rested enough for a happy landing.

But now we must battle our old foe, jetlag.

Pardon us while we sleep now.....

Wee One looks like I felt when I got back from visiting my DD & family in Palo Alto & that was just 2 time zones (but then, of course, you have to count the wear & tear of 3 little ones on an old lady)! Have a great trip.
Jetlag is no fun for the small guys. They are grumpy and don't know why. Oh, and big guys as well. At least there is a PARTIAL quiet ride over. The longer flight back can be very, very long with kids running up and down the aisles. But then, you are somewhat relaxed after the vacay. Hopefully.
We are on the plane next week to Ireland for the annual GRANPARENTFEST with our two seasoned flyers too at 6 and 9. They are looking forward to sausages and chocolate bars after breakfast (my MIL spoils them, but in a good way.)
Slan--
I just got back home (Texas) from visiting my sister in The Netherlands. My not quite two year old son went with me. It was his first plane flight too! Before we left I re-read your entries about flying with your boys. I could just see us being put off the plane in Iceland for making a disturbance.
However, my little guy was great-he got some sleep (I didnt) and was cheerful when we landed. He did get hit seriously by the jet lag but I think he did better than I did!
I just got done with a couple of plane trips myself and thankfully I did have the time to knit with I was at the airport and on the plane. Being able to knit quite possibly saved me! I really dislike flying! Glad you had a safe flight.
As usual, your kids are adorable in photos! Enjoy your trip! Hope you conquer jet lag quickly!
Wee one looks completely adorable all conked out like that! I hope you have a fun trip!
Viel Spass in Deutschland!
