stuckinette

I was feeling a little uninspired about knitting yesterday and went upstairs to switch active projects, when I realized that all of my current projects are simple, solid-color stockinette stitch. Ugh. Chickie, although beautiful, is getting boring. And I can't even think about those miles of straight knitting on the sweatpants right now. Somebody help me - I'm stuck in stockinette! At least the yarns are interesting: Peace Fleece, soft Homespun and the bumpy blue Giboulees. And then there's my gorgeous Karabella Brushed Alpaca splurge yarn. Oooh, yummy! Knitting doldrums over.

This yarn is so fluffy, it's like roving. I absolutely love it! Since it's a very chunky knit (US15s), I was hoping that I could get a hat out of one ball (yeah, I'm knitting it flat, since I don't have any short US15 circs and I don't mind seaming). But a check of the ball band set me right: 35yds! To paraphrase Roy Scheider - "you're gonna need a bigger ball". Another $15 later and all I can say is that this hat had better be fabulous with a $30 price tag!

But wait, here's a free fluffy cure for the knitting doldrums: Knitties from GGH yarns.

They're e-cards you can send to your knit-buds with wacky little knitted critters on them. Strange idea, but thankfully amusing enough to help me over my sticker shock and through my stockinette stint.

I want a Julchen! A big one to cuddle with! Thanks for the link.

And your head is worth a $30 hat. :)

I love Julchen and sent an ecard to my hubby at work :o) I've been following your blog pretty religiously and love looking at your projects. Although Chickie may be boring now, I think it's worth it because the colour and yarn are terrific. Have fun with your hat and good luck with stuckinetting!

I love those postcards, Spunk is definitely my favourite one - too odd! Good luck getting past the boring stockinette, I'm stuck in boring html at the moment. Want to swap? Oh no, I forgot - you were here last week!

alison i feel your pain on pricey hats. it seems like the good stuff always comes up *just* short of making a full hat, so you have to splurge for another ball only to have 3/4 of it left. i think i smell a conspiracy! ;) that yarn looks so yum though! i can't wait to try alpaca myself.

Hey, remember when I told you Barney's was selling knit hats for $132? Not even alpaca! This is a bargain, honey! I have sz 15 circs if you want to borrow them.

Good morning! You are the only blogger I know that's actually started the sweat pants from IK. I jut got my issue last night, and I'm pretty sure I have some old Homespun lying around from a failed afghan project, so I'm anxious to see if I can do these pants. One question: Are you doing the legs in the round? Or flat per the pattern? I thought in one of your photos it looked like you were knitting them on circ's, but I wanted to be sure. I avoid flat knitting like the plague whenever I can help it and it would encourage me if I knew you were working in the round. Thanks!

I hear what you're saying, I'm in the same boat...how about renting a good flick and knitting during the movie (no subtitles). Head down, keep going... Hey a $30 hat is still cheaper than a haircut.

Bored woth your knitting? Then I suggest you get on with it and start a bobbly sweater :). That'll get you over your hump in no time (hee-hee). I'm finally knitting the bobbly sweater again and my fingers are far from being bored, irritated maybe, but not bored. That's for sure.
