bugly

I finally decided that if I'm ever going to get this ladybug sweater done, I have to just pick a needle size and make it work. I started the sleeve off on US3, which was giving me gauge, but then through the bugs it started to look, well, a little bugly.

So I switched to US2's for the light blue and lo and behold I got gauge, it looks fine. Too bad the bugs weren't part of the miraculous gauge transformation. I wasn't up for ripping them out and redoing them though, so they're staying.

Don't worry, the bugs look perfect. I'm sure the final result will be great !

The bugs look great. Are you going to knit the other sleeve all on 2s or switch like you did for this one?

The bugs don't look bugly at all from over here! In fact they look just spiffing.

The bugs look great. You're a little too hard on yourself ;-]

Hi Alison--the bugs do look great! Don't forget about the magical final blocking--it could eliminate the little things you are focused on.

I am so glad that I can learn from you on this project! I have the pattern (who knows if I will ever do it, though) and if I tackle it, I kind of know what to expect! You do beautiful work.

The bugs look very nice! Was this a plea for everyone to remind you how great you knit? ;)

Hi everyone! Thanks for your kind words about the bugs. The photo doesn't really do the bugliness justice, since it's mostly the lumpy, bumpy quality of the bugs that's so unattractive and that's sort of eliminated in a two-dimensional picture.

So, I do find that part of the sleeve bugly and wasn't just fishing for compliments, but I'm glad to hear that without the bumpiness, the stitches themselves don't appear to be too deformed or anything. Maybe after some pressing and blocking, like Leigh said, I can reduce the lumpiness some and then feel better about it.

I think blocking will take care of any bug irregularities (not that I see any). I find that my gauge varies from plain ole knitting to two color knitting. Glad you are back in the saddle.

It's so cute! and looks fabulous. (I'm discovering I don't like stranding with dpn's. I'm hoping a lot of my bumpiness will block out).

i'm sure blocking will take care of it, but in the meantime you can just tell people that you were trying to make the bugs three-dimensional! i think it looks great, no noticeable gauge differences at all.

The bugs look bugtastic! [Look, Ma! I'm being corny!] Really, I do think they look great, and remember that blocking will most likely even them out a bit. And have I already said how much I love the color combos in this sweater? Very, very nice.
