From reading the comments yesterday and following the posts on other tank girls' blogs, it seems that the third set of decreases is the place to be. Okay, here I am. I'm really excited about the stripes. I don't like random stripes and I don't trust myself to come up with a cool stripe pattern on my own, so I swiped this pattern from one of the designs in the latest Rebecca magazine. I've decided that since I'm doing stripes, I want to make the crew neck version instead of the v-neck. I don't like breaking up stripes too much, plus the Smooch tank (another knitalong!) is v-neck and a solid color so no need to do that twice. Another thought about stripes: too many ends to weave in when knitted flat. So I'm knitting Pagan in the round, at least until the armholes.
I'd love to hear the details on everyone else's tank. Anyone else working in the round, like me, Linda, and Morgan? Anyone else subbing with Cotton Ease like Deb and Lynette? Are Kerrie and I the only ones doing stripes? What about intarsia patterns like Nora's doing? How many of you are doing the v-neck version? Cap sleeves anyone?

I am doing the vneck version since they look better on me
As for striping patterns, there are two ways to do it that look pleasing to the eye. Here is a good page of information. There are other pages out there but this is the clearest description.
For one sweater I used the Lucas way and striped as follows ... 2,3,4,7 ... you have to have either an odd number of yarn colors or an odd number of stripes to make it work. Ex. 2 yarn colors, and 3 striping sequence so that the yarn constantly changes!
good looking stripes. i'm going for basic white. lots of white in my knitting basket right now. i've finished the decreases, after frogging because i wasn't paying attention. back on track now!
I've actually managed to finish one side of the V neck shaping at lunchtime today and I'm still loving this project! ASC loves to curl up at the bottom, I wonder if we'll manage to stop it! I see in the Rowan books that their hems curl a little so maybe that makes it OK. Love your stripes, this is going ot be one funky tank!
your stripes are looking lovely. more icecream. i swear everything you make this summer is making me hungry for summer foods. weird. and my final delirious comment (i'm a bit punchy this morning): is kerrie on drugs or what, this'll only be like a 2 day project for her!!
True confessions: I have never knit a sweater in the round yet, just hats or collars and such. I have cast on Milano (Dale of Norway) that is knit in the round in the pattern. I have no idea how to take a back and forth pattern and make it round, so I am very impressed. I looked for my yarn bobbins last night (last used in 1988) and could not find them. I will either have to knit from the balls or "guestimate" the amounts and make little bundles.
i am a new knitter, with no blog, that reads your site for info and inspiration......and i have an dumb question, i am sure........
where do i find the pattern for "smooch"?
Hello Christine! Smooch is in a Rowan book called "All Seasons Cotton Collection", with patterns just for that yarn. I've got the title listed in the sidebar, but since the book name is practically the same as the yarn name, many people have overlooked it. Are you thinking of joining the knitalong??
Dear Sargeant Gauge of The Knitting Police ~
I hereby submit an official complaint. The aforementioned illegal substance was slipped into my tank against my will and subconscious knowledge. I am innocent of all charges until proven guilty in the blue court of Alison.
I patiently await the decision of the fairest knitting judge in all of blogdom.
Disrespectfully,
The Knice Knitter
At My Knits End
P.S. This is in response to a comment left in yesterday's comments here on the blue blog. Give it up Sargeant Gauge, whoever you are. I cannot BELIEVE you'd go to all the trouble of opening up a Yahoo account to foil me. I will hunt you down and persecute you to the fullest extent possible. I *do* have a license to kill. ;)
I left a comment this morning but it didn't go through -- wah! Unless the Knitting Police had something to do with deleting it. Anyway, I'm going for the Plain Jane tank girl look. V-neck, sleeveless, seaview blue. I am thinking of doing the top half in white. Not sure when to start the white so I'm just gonna hold my breath and go for it. Live on the wild side for once. :)
Christine has nothing to worry about. I just realized from reading these comments that Smooch is a v-neck. I was avoiding knitting it because I thought it was a one-shoulder jobbie (it looks that way with the hair-over-the-shoulder).
Sign me up -- I want an excuse to buy one of the colors I have never used before that I keep seeing in all these Pagans. By the way, Becky has a tank girl button! I swiped it.
i figured it was something like that, but i am so new at this- still finding my way with names and terms and stuff.......whew! there is alot to know
i dont have a blog-so not sure about the knitalong, but i was thinking of trying that tank.......it's lovely!
thanks so much for answering my question
Thanks for the stripe info Morgan. Maybe someday I'll be brave enough to make up my own.
Kerstin, your tank sounds like it's going to be lovely. When do we get a peek at it?? Sargeant Gauge, exactly what substance has been found in Kerstin's tank? Did it artificially improve her knitting and if so, where can I get some? In fact, where can I get whatever Kerrie's got, so I can be almost done too?!
Christine, if you're going to make the tank, you should think about just joining us. Isn't this fun?! Let me know and I'll put your name up on the list. Start whenever - that knitalong doesn't really have any particular time frame. I could post a progress picture for you no problem. It's fun to know about all the other people out there working on the same project and see how they're doing.
i posted this on my blog, but figured i'd post it here as well to get some quick feedback.
i decided i would like to do a 3-needle bind off for the front and back. so...in the pattern section that says "shape shoulders and back neck" it says: cast off 4 sts at beg of next row. then, cast off rem 5 sts. then you proceed to follow same directions on the other side. by my thinking, i should not cast off these stitches, and simply put them on a holder. am i right?
Hi Tank Girls,
I wish I'd thought to knit my tank in the round. I'm halfway through the back, and I'm only knitting in one color. Alison, your tank looks heavenly. I'll have to make another one and pick all the lovely pastel colors I bypassed when I selected the Cotton Ease Blueberry. I love knitting this top.
I must admit, I've taken a 2-day break from the jacket I've been commissioned to work on. Someone else has joined me in knitting Pagan in my little group as well. I'm glad I joined. It's a lot of fun.
