happy birthday, ma

Happy birthday today to my mother! A card. Okay, I got you a little something else besides the card.

Your sweater! I hope you enjoy it so much that you eventually wear holes into it. That would make me very happy.

I finished the sweater over the weekend in time for mom to take it home with her after her visit. It fits exactly the way she likes (action shot!) and the colors look great on her, so I guess I did good. Well, except for the minor issue of it being a year later than promised. Heh, heh. You see, I wrapped up the yarn for this project and gave it to my mother for Christmas 2001. I promised her a finished sweater for her birthday in 2002. Whoops! I'll try to do better with the fandango vest, ma.

Isn't it nice to have a knitter in the family?

Wow.

I'm sure your mum will agree that it was well worth the wait, it looks GORGEOUS! You should be really proud of yourself, all those ends to weave in. Yeugh. The fandango vest looks like loads of fun, I love that yarn!

I think 2 years to do that complex of a sweater isn't bad (all those ends!!!! yikes!!!) The action shot is great as it fits very nicely. Great Job (and Happy Birthday Alison's Mom!)

Worth waiting for..... Great job!

I also like the birthday card.

Wow! You finished it!!! Fast-fingered Alison does it again. (I think I'll write the screenplay for the movie. Care to go to Hollywood?) It looks spectacular. Impeccable. It fits your mom well, too. I'll be sad not to see Native around at the meetings anymore, but that's the way it goes. Oh, I spy a label in the sweater. What does it say? Inquiring minds are, well, inquiring. ;) (The last line should read "Isn't it great to have a hooker in the family?" Those squares look like cro-chay to me.)

Happy birthday to your mother :0]

Definitely gorgeous! All those stripes! All those **!!@@** ends to sew in! A symbol of true daughterly love and devotion, indeed. :-)

That is very impressive, Alison! Beautiful!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.... of course I LOVE the sweater.... but the best gift of all is having such an amazing daughter!

It's beautiful! I'm sure yoour mom feels that it was well worth the wait. Congrats on weaving in all of those ends!

Congrats on getting the sweater done, it's beautiful. I know what that's like--it took me 4 years to finish a sweater for my husband. Now that you're free of it you can look forward to a bunch of new projects! And, where'd you find that picture--it's too weird!

2 years isn't that bad for a mom of twins who seems to suffer from ocassional bouts of startitis! It's Fabolicious!

Posted by: Chris at August 20, 2003 8:45 AM

It's knitalicious!! When do you sleep Alison?? Will I see you on sunday the 31st? deb

The sweater looks great! And a very happy birthday to your mom. (It's my birthday too, and Lisa's from blogdogblog, and Jackie's from Knitting and Other Stuff. There must be some special connection between people born on the 20th and sheep.)

Hey Cari, how cool. Happy birthday to everyone!

Steph, the last picture is of a card available at Cath Tate Cards along with other hilarious "Loose Knits" postcards and magnets and stuff. Check them out; they're a riot!

Beautiful sweater. Giggled out loud at the link at the bottom. Those tops kick ass. We should all make one. SCARRRRY!!!

WOW! That is SO beautiful! What a wonderful present; you're mother must be proud to wear that. [Happy Birthday, Alison's Mom :-)]

Posted by: Becky at August 21, 2003 4:56 AM

Well, I have to say that it looks better as a sweater than a poncho! Mom loved it! she looks smashing in it! You, my knitting friend, are the champ! The hero of the day! Bask in it! glory in it! Because I know, that with kids, it doesn't take long to knock that pedestal over! haha!
You are a good daughter!

Posted by: Sandy at August 21, 2003 6:43 AM

Thanks everyone for the kind birthday wishes you sent to my mother. :-)

And Sandy, I know all too well what you mean about the kids. I just spent ten minutes fighting with Stefan because he wanted his milk, not in the new sippy cup, but in the old one with stains on it. Ugh!

Posted by: alison at August 21, 2003 6:50 AM

Alison: I'd just go ahead & LET him have the old sippy cup... eventually he'll be fine with the new one... unless it's something you decided to put your foot down about...with kids, gotta choose your battles wisely...

I know how it is, been through it with the older 3 and am dealing with heavy duty toddler stuff with my youngest... let's just say that I'm GLAD that duct tape keeps him out of the refrigerator, and we can keep him from getting his hands on the chairs by tying some to the table & putting the others in the pantry...
