cutting
No new sewing to report so far this week. I hope to get the drawstrings finished for my skirt this afternoon, though. I've become a bit discouraged as regards the skirt: A) because I don't have any shoes to wear with it; and B) because someone mentioned "prairie" in one of the comments last week and all I can think of are those god-awful puffy sleeves and poofy prairie skirts that I wore when I was 13. A) is pretty easy to solve, I think, but B) may require my cutting off the lace.
Cutting off the lace and rehemming would be pretty scary, but if it comes to that, I'll try to follow the brave example set by my boys, who got their first haircut today! They really needed it. Until April, they had almost no hair, but once it started growing in, it didn't take long for it to get a bit outta control. Here's B before and S, whose hair was even longer and curlier than his brother's.
There were only a few tears shed at the beginning of the cut. Animal crackers, cartoons, and the realization that nothing bad was happening helped to calm their fears.

And now, no more hair in our eyes! Fuzzy heads rule!

what handsome boys... and so brave!!
can't see the new haircuts too well but hope to see them in person sometime soon.
Don't let that "prairie" comment keep you from wearing your striped skirt. Any one of the tops you've knitted this summer worn with it will remove all "prairie" influences from it.
Thanks for the encouragement, Charlotte. I have to say that the prairie comment was meant as a compliment, but the more I think about those silly old skirts, the more I want to cut off that lace. I'll give it a trial though with one of my tanks and see if I feel differently.
Benny and Stefan are very cute with their new haircuts!
Cute boys. Regarding the skirt, go with your gut instinct. You don't want to have a finished product that you don't want to wear!
awwwwwww...I still have both of my kids first haircuts, seems like yesterday! Almost 20 years ago, yikes! The boys look brave, and They are SO adorable!
now I feel all guilty about the prairie comment. your skirt looks nothing like those skirts at all (which, if they were dresses as opposed to skirts, could have come from Mary and Laura's costuming wardrobe).
Hey Kim, no need to feel bad. It's the image of those skirts and some irrational fear that I'll look as stupid as I did when I was in junior high that's making me crazy. I'm trying to
be objective about it, because I do like my skirt. But I am so not ready to go back to the 80's fashion-wise that I keep asking myself whether cutting off the lace wouldn't just make it all better. My plan is first to get some new shoes. And not something Mary or Laura would have worn either! ;0)
Looking forward to seeing your sister's finished
top and your Becky sweater!
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! Those photos absolutely made my day. How sweet they look with their fuzzy new haircuts, and how brave they acted. Later I'll share with you a photo of Captain Destructo getting one of his first haircuts, and he has the SAME expression as your boys. Priceless!
P.S. Prairie? Now you get that idea out of your head and stop feeling silly! Those skirts are cool and the look is in. (Hellooo...we should always pause to re-read our comments before submitting just to make sure that what we've written doesn't communicate the wrong idea :-))
Just wear some flip flops with the skirt... it's so totally relaxed and will look great with the length. You can even get fancy flip flops with jewels and beading on them... not Laura or Mary at all! You'll be fully hip.
