ribby redux
Um, hit a little problem with the ribby cardie. It kinda grew during blocking and came out longer than I'd like. But, in the "two wrongs make a right" department, the neck ended up being too small (due to a minor calculation error on my part), so I needed to rip back and start the neck earlier anyway. Thus, ribby ripping and ribby (yoke) reknitting.

Here's the new version. I really like the length now and the collar is very comfy. I should be able to zip it all the way up.
But, in the" three wrongs make one wrong too many" department, I just noticed that the zipper I bought isn't a separating zipper. Doh! I guess I got carried away over finding a zipper in exactly the right color and forgot that there were some other important requirements to consider. Heh, heh. I'll have to go online and special order one to match the yarn for the button bands. Now, I'm thinking 2-way separating, so I can close it just in the middle, like in the picture. You like?

ribby cardie
Separating zipper or non-separating zipper, ribby cardi looks fab! Wear it proudly :-)
(And I like the 2-way separating zipper idea - that look is really big over here right now. Go for it!)
Is the 2 way separating zipper the type that are on coats? I would like to know where you are getting your zipper.
Looks great Alison--and just in time, weather wise! I vote for the separating zipper too.
and here's an address to check out:

Need somebody to make a run to the Fabric Place for ya? ;)
Dava, thanks for posting the address. That's exactly where I'm ordering from!
I love your ribby cardie, Alison!
Love the color on you, ma'am. The 2 way zippers get me *so* confused but I like the look. Wear it on Sunday? Please?
The dreaded Growing-Upon-Blocking disease strikes again! It looks great on you after fixing. I think I ordered my zipper from zipperstop.com in case the website you are thinking of can't help you.
Now i really need my yarn to get here! At least Elann is quick so I shouldn't have to wait to long. Then finding time to knit it will be hard to do. Do I relaly have to cook and clean to be a good mom?
Cooking and cleaning! I knew there was something I forgot to do. ;0)
It looks so great. Congrats. I love the colour. It looks so cosy for the crappy winter.
wowee! Finished FRED's sleeves this morning so I'll be yoking tonight...so inspiring to see yours! Good point about the 2 way zipper :)
Hi Alison, your ribby cardie looks great. Please add me tot he ribby knit-along. Just have to settle on some yarn (almost decided!), maybe finish parched, and I'll be off!
um didn't i tell you you'd be done w/ this baby before september had really kicked in? criminy. you know, you did start a few weeks early!!!! (just teasin' -- we both know either way you'd still be done and i still wouldn't!!)
Whoa there, Carolyn. I'm a long way from being done. I've still got to knit up those front bands and then get that zipper in (I've never sewn in a zipper before!). So it'll be a while!
Glad to have more ribby knitalongers! Did you all see that Claudia started another one? It was seeing Claudia's first ribby that made me want to make it. By the way, Claudia, it seems that zipperstop.com and the ykk-zippers.com people are the same. I'm glad to hear that, since I know that your order went well.
Hi Alison - Speaking of three times the charm, I've finished my Chickami. It was the third attempt with the yarn (I used Tahki's cotton colori from Elann and adjusted for gauge). The yarn was originally purchased for another tank top entirely, but that one was the wrong size and UGLY. The second time around, it was the Chickami, knit in the round. That turned out too big and all the stitches were slanted (So much for adjusting the gauge! As for the slanted stitches - a mystery). Now it's all done (knitted straight and seamed) and I love it. Thanks for including me in the Knit-Along! I really enjoy your blog!
