You know it's fall when the Oktoberfests begin. The real Oktoberfest won't start for a few weeks yet, but New England's largest Oktoberfest was held just outside of Boston last weekend. And as a good german-american family, we were there. They boys in their knitted lederhosen, of course.
And here are all my german guys, very focused on their ice cream.
We'll be off to Germany ourselves come October. I'm working hard to finish the current projects, so I'm clear to bring something new for a little easy vacation knitting. I'm thinking about this poncho from Sally Melville's The Knit Stitch.
Anyone up for a poncho-along? Any poncho pattern counts! Let me know.

ponch-o-long
Finally, a knit-a-long I can participate in! *g* I'm just starting Berroco's cabled poncho from one of this year's fall book using their Pleasure yarn and Zap for the edging. :-) Count me in! I'll begin posting photos and updates on my blog this weekend.
(I love ponchos. My mom used to make 'em for me and the memory of that is enough to make them my favourite winter garb.)
Knit lederhosen?! HOW CUTE!
That looks like a LOT of garter stitch. Should certainly qualify as mindless knitting. If it were me, I'd take a lace-weight shawl for the knitting project.
poncho knit along - great idea!!! i've been planning a poncho project of two for this fall! i'd love to join in on a knit along - although i may not have gotten my blog off the ground by then though. it was great to meet you last week! i love the lederhosen! happy stitching11 tammey
Love that poncho pattern, but I couldn't talk myself into all that garter stitch. I used the basic pattern and sewed them from polar fleece for my two girls.
Hi Alison... I have been a long time reader, first time commenter... I would LOVE to be a part of this knit-a-long! I actually wear ponchos every winter because I cannot stand wearing long sleeved shirts and then stuffing them into coats. Plus, I guess I have the desire to be one serious Diva!!! I have a bunch of alpaca and quivit waiting to be knitted (thinking Reynolds Lopi book 82122.. already made one in a taupey alpaca). Or the Mexican serape in Folk Shawls!!!
oh my goodness ponchos! my mother used to have one-- I always thought it was so ugly, the yarn was *huge* and it had that peculiar 70's kind of green, inbetween avocado and olive. But I have to admit there was a poncho in the September Sandra that caught my eye.
For trip knitting, I second Charlotte-- something lace weight or very fine. Imagine when you get half the poncho done and then try to fit it into a carryon along with everything else! Not my choice of a traveling knit project. But if you won't be in planes and trains that much maybe it doesn't matter.
Those lederhosen are just too cute on your boys!
Poncho: Hm...I really want to knit one for my sister, who's been asking for one since I posted some pictures of ponchos on my site. If I can get my hands on some yarn, I'd love to do a poncho, too. (I know it's a longshot, but will you be passing through France on your way to Germany? I'm sure you'll be meeting up with a few people as you've got a ton of fans this side of the "pond". If you do, let me know! :-))
Count me in. I have the capelet pattern by Ann Norling that I want ot make for daughters. Now to actually get my Ribby Cardie going!
Oooh, a poncho knit along! I have been dying to make one for two years, this could be just the impetus I need!
Yay! I'm happy to see that there are knitters out there interested in the poncho-along. If you don't have a blog, I'll be happy to post a finished picture here for you. Just figure out a way to send it to me!
I'm trying to compile a list of some poncho patterns for those people who may be interested but don't know where to start looking. If you know of others and can give me some specifics (maybe even a web link) I'd appreciate it. :0)
Hi Alison - The little guys look great in thier Hosen! They'll fit right in in Bavaria. Where are you guys going on your visit?
Kathleen, we won't be making it down to Bavaria. My husband is from Hessen, so we'll be there in an area called the Hinterland. Seriously, that's the name!
I know I'm a little late, but I just found out about the knit-along through the knitting blogger's webring last night. This is awesome, count me in, please!
