knitting a cloud

Despite a momentary (and so far unsuccessful) lapse into bucketing, I'm still on schedule with my holiday gift knitting.

Here's the beginnings of another sideways garter stitch scarf. This one's for a friend's little girl. The yarn is soooo soft - Plush from Berroco - 100% nylon and as fluffy as a cloud. I swear if they had any sophisticated adult colors, I'd be all over this yarn! It was a little slippery on my preferred Inox needles, though. But since I broke out the bamboos, it's been a dream to knit.

That is, at least as long as I remember to knit. I've already purled a WS row out of habit and had to unknit the whole row (150 stitches!). Twice. And since every stitch just disappears in this fuzzy, smooshy, pillowy yarn, unknitting has been pretty not cool. I fear that the yarn gods are ready to move on to help others. My project karma is starting to go bad!

Funny you should mention the Plush color issue. They used to come in some darker shades on the first run and then they went all pastel (except for having black). I wrote to Berroco through their KnitBits newsletter and they wrote me back to tell me that they are developing a more grown-up color line for Plush since everyone loves it so much! I suggested something like the colors they have for Softwist - grown up but not boring!

In the meantime I have some dark purple, dark teal & green stashed...LOL...

jeez, girl...I noticed some intellectual reading pursuits elsewhere on your site but unless you're a twin, I can't see how you have time to hold down a job, do the knitting, have kids, and friends AND keep up this site. Are you an insomniac?? Can I have some???am I missing something??

thx for your site though..like it a lot!

Very interesting info about the Plush yarn. I'd love to see more adult colors. The question is can I wait long enough for them to come out or do I just go with the black or maybe one of the blues?

Micki, I'm not working at present. I stopped teaching so I could stay home with the kids. Frankly, day care for twin pre-schoolers costs more than I could earn!!

That yarn sure is pretty! And I like the colors you have there...maybe a scarf for yourself? It reminds me of Phildar Neige, which is also 100% nylon, knits up on the same size needles and is VERY slippery. But such a fluffy fabric!

colors look like candy! and the scarf looks so squishy

That scarf sure looks soft! Couldn't you just wrap yourself in it today?? Brrrrrr! Kinda chilly! See ya Sunday??

Hmm, perhaps you've sent the yarn gods my way, I really lucked out on my first holiday gift-along project. I finished a small scarf with exactly one ball of yarn.

Knowing you, I'm sure you'll get your project karma back in no time!

Wow, the yarn looks so soft!

I just saw a Plush scarf at my LYS and HAD to have it...luckily for me and my christmas gifts they were all out of the yarn. It's such a cool fabric. The one they had was orange, but a nice orange.

I feel your un-knitting pain. One stitch at a time....arghh!!

That scarf looks so cushy... I think a pastel blue or pink with a black - either alternate rows or knitting two strands together - would be kind of funky for an adult until they get some new colors! :) Lovely work.

I bet Plush Jazzy Turquoise would look good on you.

Dear Alison, everything you do is gorgeous!!! I have been searching the Internet for a cute sweater for a kid, and I found two giraffe sweaters you knitted for your boys last January. I couldn't find the partten of this sweater anywhere. I live in Russia and we do not have Phildar catalogues here. Would you please, help me and tell how can I knit such an adorable sweater. I would appreciate it very much. Thank you in advance.

Hello Natalia, the giraffe jackets are from a French pattern book, which is difficult to find outside of France. There is a Dutch online site (www.breiweb.nl) that sells the catalogs, but they're translated into Dutch. A Candian website (www.knitntyme.com) has some of the catalogs in English, but I'm not sure if she still has any of the one with the giraffe jackets - Tricotez Calin #3. Another knitblogger, Becky at www.skinnyrabbit.com, has done english translations of some of the Phildar patterns and sells them for a small fee. Go to her site and at the very bottom of the page there's a link about contacting her about Phildar patterns. Good luck!

Hi, I am new and would love to make some more scarves with Phildar Neige. The store where I purchased it originally is out. Can anyone tell me where to go online to get some more and perhaps some different colors. I did not find it too slippery to handle. I made alternate blocks of the black with a furry red I had and it came out beautifully. Reminds me of Mae West! Please someone get in touch with me,
Thank you in advance,
iknitem
