Already?! As I mentioned the other day, the weather's been so warm that I can't really imagine getting any use out of my alpaca hat in the near future. In fact, it's been down-right spring-y. As a long-time Bostonian however, I don't believe for a second that it will stay this way, but still, spring here now and it's making me anxious to put away the wool and start making tanks! Which means that it's time to start my spring workout. This consists of pushing two 30 pound twin boys around town in their double-wide stroller, loaded with three bags full of diapers, snacks and toys. Once I'm in form again, I'll be able to do it without groaning on every 2 degree incline! And then I'll be ready for the tanks. I've gotten two workouts already this week! Here's what we did yesterday:
It's shaping up to be a beautiful summer of knitting! What will you be knitting??

I've been wanting to make that halter from Hollywood Knits as well. There are also a couple of cute tank patterns in my Twilleys mag. I'll bring it in a couple of weeks. And I'm drawn more every day to the pink cardi that you showed me in Rebecca. Man, I better stop commenting and start knitting. :) P.S. I have an appt today in Brookline and hope to (finally!) stop by A Good Yarn. Yay!
I've started on the tanks already. I cast on for Tina (a web exclusive pattern from Berroco). I'm using Debbie Bliss cotton silk aran which has very good stitch definition - great for cables. A ball of this doesn't go far so an aran sweater is out of the question.
I still want to make the Rebecca top on the left, I love that pattern. ooh, and the tiny tank was such fun - I wore mine so much on honeymoon. I love summer knitting!
That pink Rebecca cardi is calling me too... though I haven't yet searched out a copy of the magazine. And I am in love with just about all of the lace sweaters in the latest Rowan mag-- Posy for sure, and the lace leaf cardigan with ruffled edges, and Tipsy. I also had plans to do the lace cardigan from Vintage Knits, and the lace sweater with ribbons (maybe without the ribbons, am on the fence as to whether it would be just a bit too sweet for me...) so hey, when do I get vacation to get all this knitting done!
Most important on my list are -- count 'em -- THREE baby sweaters for babies due towards the end of this summer. I'm making all three in 6-12 mos. sizes for the upcoming fall/winter. (All three babies live in chilly climes, fortunately.)
My personal projects are going to be Bonne Marie Burns' Eyelet Cardi, in Rowan Linen Drape (obtained for cheap from Colourway.co.uk), and a coordinating V-neck tank top, from the Dalegarn Svale booklet, in the same yarn (I have TWENTY balls of the rich purple called Hawaii). Twinset!
The other project I'm scouting out (no hurry, the wedding isn't till next summer) is a wedding shawl for my soon-to-be-ex boss. It wants to be non-wool (she's allergic, and not the fake kind of allergic), and dark purple/raisin/burgundy tones. Soliciting yarn ideas already!
Oops, it's not Dalegarn, it's from Jaeger -- a pattern intended for the Matchmaker Merino, but will work fine with the Linen Drape. It's the Rimini pattern on the bottom right in this photo.
Which issue of Rebecca are those two tops from? They look so cute. Alas, I'm still plodding away on a winter Phildar sweater. It will probably be too warm to wear once I finish. Just so that I can have something to wear this summer, I think this weekend I will have to swatch for a tiny cabled tank from Rowan #29.
Maybe a Rebecca-top-along? I also really like the purl polka dots top in the Spring Interweave Knits. But I still need to do a ton of work on kyoto, which is only about 20% done and is my first spring sweater for this year.
Hmm perhaps I will actually finish up that wannabe, I know it isn't a tank but I think I am the slowest knitter on earth with that project. I feel that this spring will be its time to shine! And that halter is so fun, you should definitely make that.
Also, I'm taking your suggestion and actually writing up some of my designs, so I might have something to offer for summertime possibilities...
Remember the blue tank with the eyelets that I was working on?...
(it was a while ago, so you're allowed not to ;) )
I'm starting a Shapely Tank from White Lies Designs. All those tiny tanks and halters don't work for us D-cup girls. :) Other than that I've been waiting for the next Knitty to provide some inspiration. Although the new Rebecca seems promising. I won't be able to get my hands on one for a while. I'm also thinking about one of the top-down merino T's from the last IK in a summery yarn.
Well, first on my tank list is finishing up that tank I started last summer (it's in my WIPs) -- the one out of Berroco Cotton Twist.
After that, I'm planning on making a sideways knit cabled tank (Tahki-SC pattern - here) out of the La Nova (a href="http://www.knittingfever.com/product.asp?p_id=591" target="new">here -- I have color #87) I bought last year (so I get vertical stripes)!
BTW, www.tahkistacycharles.com just posted their Spring/Summer 2004 patterns...tank-o-rama! Woo hoo!
Maybe. Just maybe, I'll break down and try some of that All Seasons Cotton that you all rave about.....
Well I'm already working on Bonne Marie's eyelet cardi and I have had the yarn to make that same lace sweater from the Vintage Knits book for a year now so I'll probably make it this summer. I also (like Becky) have LOTS of baby projects to do (I think there are 4 or 5 babies due this summer and fall for whom I would like to knit) and I want to make a Rebecca top (from issue #25) and some things for my kids. Guess I'd better get crackin'! Oh and I love that Hollywood knits halter. I'll probably jump on a few bandwagons--I'm so susceptible to knitalongs!
1. finish Rogue
2. finish ancient Rowan cardigan from book #8 (over 9 years on the needles!)
3. socks and gloves in Cherry Tree Hill supermerino I bought at the Spin and Spa weekend.
4. stripey Plymouth superwash pullover with BIG stars for the little guy.
5. "Mithril" tunic for teenage hobbit in Berroco metallic something I forget the name of.
6. Tricot in yarn tobedetermined. Ah, I knew I had to buy more yarn for something.
7. Elephant vest from Ms. Hebridean's Childrens' Collection.
8. Spin my first yarn and make some regular old mittens.
And then, it might be September. And there might be a dent in the enormous Stash. A small one.
Ohh! I love seeing what everyone's making. I'm not a tank girl, but I like the Cardi-Raye. I'll probably still be plugging along on my scarves!!!
I've two tanks' worth of yarn in my stash. I hope to get at least one of them into your knitalong this summer! It's Tank Girl time :-)
Hey, I have an "I Voted" sticker just like that on my coat! I thought of you when we went to cast our ballots on Tuesday evening, remembering that you love to vote. (We do vote at the same place, by the way.)
Did you have to ask for the stickers? They didn't offer them to us when we sumbitted our ballots, so as we were leaving I was grumbling about Brookline being a rip-off because they didn't give their voters stickers. I think I must have grumbled a little louder than I thought, because one of the poll workers heard me and told us to go ask the woman at the other table for our stickers. Woops!
I'm starting my first tank this weekend, by the way! Thank goodness, my pocketbook couldn't have tolerated buying sweater-sized amounts of yarn for much longer. Ah, the bliss of a five-skein project!
Hey everyone, thanks for sharing all your summer knitting! Thanks especially to those of you who included links. I've been browsing a lot of them. Those Tahki tanks look pretty cool! The shapely tank is also a great design. I see that eyelets will be in this summer as well. And there are always plenty of baby knits to work on (those babies just keep on coming).
I'll definitely do some sort of tank-along again this summer. I hope a lot of you can join in! And I'm honored that some of you want to knit Tricot. (Aww, shucks.)
Shannon, the Brookline ladies were a little stingy with the stickers. From my experience, the best guarantee to being offered stickers is to have two screaming children on your hands! ;0) Seriously, the boys were actually very good. I guess the second best way to get stickers is to have two incredibly adorable children in tow. :0)
I can't wait to start Rebecca 17 & put the iron-on on the front of it!
I am all about tanks! I've got smooch planned - next I think - and one of the rebecca tanks that Bonne Marie has in her gallery - and another rebecca tank - the red lacy one from #25. I've just gone on a cotton yarn shopping spree now I've got to *stop* buying yarn and start knittin' up some tanks! I like that chinese-influence rebecca top too. SO many choices! Bring on the warm weather! :)
