sew blue returns

We left our intrepid newbie seamstress last September, hands full of cotton prints and head full of fun summer patterns, but in a crisis over a skirt gone all wrong. Well, 'tis the season again for cotton prints and fun summer patterns! So when Carolyn reminded me that I had once planned to make this fabby little top, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to get back into it. A dip into the fabric stash and I found the perfect fabric too - cotton dots that I picked up on my trip to Germany last year.

I can't help but think of this project as "pknitty", 'cause that's the name of the blog where I first saw the pattern and it reminds me of the Cleo pattern in last summer's Knitty. I loved those two tops! And Carolyn pointed out that one of the Sew Hip it Hurts gals made a cute little pink verison of this one too. Carolyn's planning on sewing-along with me, which is very good, since after a six month hiatus, I'll need a lot of hand holding.

Oh, and as for that skirt, I'll be calling in some reinforcements (in the form of super-seamstress and fellow Knitsmith, May) on that one!

oooh - that little top is just gorgeous, it is going to look perfect in that spotty fabric. There must be something in the air, I dragged my sewing machine out for the first time in ages yesterday!

Love the dots! Too cute. I think my machine want to come out and play.

I think I may have this Butterick pattern. Sewing along coming up? It will be a quick one according to Sew Hip girl's log.

Love that fabric!

awesome sewing plans! nothing gets me thinking sewing like sunshine and warmer weather. There's something in the air that seems to scream "instant tank top"! summer clothes are so easy and fun to make, they just fly from the machine. Unlike knitting anything. And, umm... about the blue... the next time I hear anyone casting aspersions on my fondness for yellow.... :)

Hey, I bought that pattern last year after seeing the picture of it here. In fact I dragged it out just last week and cut the pieces from some stashed linen. Great minds think alike.:-)

Yay! Can't wait to see more sewn projects. I love that tank pattern too.

Hey May and Alexandra, sew along with us! We'll be starting the first week of May. Fun, fun, fun!

Wonderful spotty fabric!

P.S. Can I come over and cut out your patterns for you? For some reason, I have fun doing that :-)

Alison, sewing is right up my alley! Way to go. I went to Knit NY Sunday, because of your rave. LOVED it. Thanks.

woot - go us - i'll start mon. night when i get back from MD (i mean i get back on sunday, but i work very early on monday so won't do anything until that night)

Becky, cutting out the pieces is my favorite part too! I still have a summer project from last year that I'd cut the pieces for. I seem to have lost interest after that. Hee, hee.

Carolyn, I haven't forgotten our starting plan for beginning of May. I was just laying everything out to be sure I had enough fabric (found the spots in a remnant bin, so wanted to check). I still have to wash the fabric, so I haven't done any pinning or cutting or anything like that.

Hey, I have that pattern and was planning on making that top as well. Maybe with little sleeves, though. I think I shall sew-along too.

Posted by: Stephanie at April 27, 2004 1:29 PM

I don't have a blog (yet), but I'd like to sew along too, if I can find the pattern. Do you have any desire to start an official sew along?

Cool - a knitters' sew along. I love it! I'm making a button right now. Cheryl, I'd be happy to host a pic of your finished top here on my blog. Glad you'll be joining in on the fun. :)
