a sew blue sew-along

Yes, you knew it had to happen, a sew-along for that little Butterick pattern that everyone seems to have.

I know that some of you will be done in no time, so we'll make this a brief one. How about the month of May? That gives me a goal to shoot for too.

To get warmed up, I'm trying out what looks like a pretty simple Burda pattern for a cozy, blousy top. Well, the pattern instructions look simple once I find the pattern pieces in this maze of lines.

Yikes!

Whoa- insane lines!
I spent all day sewing yesterday and came up with a super cute dp needle case. I'm so proud! :-)

Please count me in for the sew-along!
After seeing that darling top, I went to the fabric store last week to find pattern and fabric.
For those of us who are a bit bigger/curvier or more amply endowed, I found a very similar pattern in a larger size range.
Simplicity 5074, View C is nearly identical if you leave off the sleeves (the bodice pieces from view A should work nicely)
I am washing fabric and cutting out pattern pieces tonight, now to decide which of my fabrics to use!

I was tempted to sew that little top as well, but I found a couple of cute look-alikes at TJ's this past week so I went the easy consumerist route. ;) I was going to bring them in for show and tell yesterday, but Liv has been suffering from a high fever since Saturday afternoon. Have you seen Mariko's skirt? I'm tempted to break out the machine for a few of those. Then again, sewing patterns scare the livin' daylights out of me. Look at those lines! *gulp*

OOH!OOH! Sign me up! It's just what I need to get me back to sewing, I have a couple of summer blouses in the "go" from last summer, so I can use the incentive to open the sewing machine table. Great-my plan for today was to catch up on my knitting for hire, and now I will be out shopping for fabric.....

I know, the lines can be very intimidating... The way I handle tracing off the patterns is this: I put down one of those cardboard cutting boards or some other piece of soft-ish material. Then the paper on which I'm going to trace, and then the Burda sheets. I run a tracing wheel over the pattern lines and the little indentations go through onto the paper below. Then I go over them with a pencil or whatever, add seam allowances, etc. If the lines are very confusing, I sometimes go over them with a colored pencil before the tracing wheel just so I know where I'm going. Carbon paper is the same principle but it's so smudgy and I can never find sheets big enough. can't wait to see your sewing projects!

oh wow, i haven't looked at a burda mag pattern since high school! ah, the memories. i'm surprised they still print them like that. but the designs were always different enough to make me struggle thru the maze. good luck!

Count me in also! I was worried about getting the pattern, but it seems that it is still in print, so I'll pick it up. I consider sewing my primary hobby, with knitting secondary (although the lines are blurring!) so this will be fun.

Oh Yikes is right! Why do they have to go and do that? Just to save a little bit of paper? I'm forever worn out after all the stuff I made for our wedding 4.5 years ago. And my little Prince likes to pull stuff of tables - and ironing boards, so I'll stick to my knitting right now - even if only to avoid all those lines! ;)

I love Burda patterns! I think they are my favorites because they don't have lots of extra steps:) Have fun!

If you want to know how this Butterick pattern worked for others, try http://sewing.patternreview.com/
and search by the pattern number. There are several review of the patterns with photos of the completed projects.
