mooie dag

Hot off the doorstep - my yarn from the Netherlands. Yup, the Breiweb folks and the US Postal Service finally came through. And here's what it was all for - that little green ball in the center.

Phildar Plaisance in Piscine. Not available in stores, anymore - that's right, discontinued, baby! Thankfully Breiweb still had some in stock. And then I had to order a few more things to make the shipping worth it. You understand. And just for fun, I ordered one of the Phildar catalogs from them. In Dutch. I enjoy working my way through German and French patterns, so this should be a real laugh.

I'm in such a good mood now that my yarn has arrived. Here's wishing you all mooie dagen (lovely days) like today!

yay for yarn that makes it over the Atlantic. Now go finish Cardi Raye so that we can all drool over its completed gorgeousness! :)

are you getting on with the translations? if you need any help, let me know, I`m Dutch but I usually knit from English patterns (like Rowan).

If you like Dutch sites try www. wolhalla.nl (sockyarn) or www. ribbels.nl (stocks Scandinavian yarn like Dale)

Yay, it's here!

You must show us what else is in that bag!
I'm interested to know what your experience with Breiweb has been like. I visit their site often for the Phildar content, and since there are so few places to find Phildar yarns online, I had considered ordering from them too. I just wasn't sure if language would be an issue.
Have fun with the package!

Breiweb's been doing a lot of business with Americans lately. When I wrote to ask about my package, she mentioned that she'd sent my package out with a whole bunch of others to America. So there are many of us who can report on how it was to work with them.

You can write to their email address in english for help about whether they have a certain yarn or info on how to pay, or whatever. Everytime I wrote, I received a fast, clear, and helpful response. The shopping cart system is actually pretty clear. When you check out you choose Paypal and then send the money to their paypal email address.

So overall, I'm happy with them. I'd definitely order from them again if I needed to. And they explained that the delay was due to having to reorder something directly from Phildar. It wasn't a real problem for me. These things happen. I can see that the package took two weeks to get to me once it was shipped. Not bad at all.

Conclusion: Breiweb good.

I agree with Alison, I've had a very good experience ordering from Breiweb. They've even added Engligh to their website since I first ordered from them. The first time I ordered I got my package in California in seven days. Can't beat that! Since the overseas shipping is rather high (about 20 euros) ordering yarn for two projects (or combining orders with a pal) is the way to go. That's not rationalizing Alison, it's just smart.

Thanks for the advice Alison and Silvia! I'm not usually shy about ordering from overseas (Colourway is one of my absolute favorites!) but I was undecided about Breiweb because the website is slightly difficult for me to navigate - good to know you can contact them easily in English.
Speaking of Phildar, have you seen the new pattern book (ete)? Just thought I'd mention it.

I can help with Dutch translations too, if you need it.

Thanks for the info on Breiweb, I've been liking the Phildar patterns I've seen and it's good to know there's a reliable source :o)

Every time I see the word, piscine, I think "Don't piscine our pool!" Ha ha, I know it's bad, I'm fired.

I may have to give them a try!

about the lady in the sweater on the cover of what looks like a magazine or pattern book. What's the name of that pattern book (if that's what it is) also is there a link to the site so I can get that book. I've been searching for a pattern to make a sweater similar to the one she's wearing!

Posted by: icey at May 10, 2004 3:39 PM

Icey, the pattern book is Phildar Printemps 2004. You can order it in French directly from Phildar at www.phildar.fr or in English from www.knitntyme.com in Canada. I ordered mine from www.breiweb.nl, a Dutch store that sells Phildar yarns and catalogs (in Dutch!) online.

The picture I took is of the back cover. So when you see the magazine pictured on the other websited the cover pic will be different. But if you get Printemps 2004, you'll have the right one. :)
