I'm up to the i-cord on the sophie bag. Despite not loving making i-cord, I have decided to lengthen the straps a couple of inches (after reading Carolyn's suggestions). I should be ready to felt this weekend. I've never felted anything before, so this will be a real adventure for me. Wish me luck!

Uhoh, felting is sooooo addicting! You will be hooked.
Are you using Cascade? That stuff felts like a dream, you'll LOVE it!
And yes, felting is terribly addicting! Enjoy!
Have fun! Felting is Fun! (Remember to put your sophie bag in a zippered pillowcase. The wool can clog up your machine. Don't want any broken washing machines over there!)
I made the Sophie bag a few weeks ago and I also lengthened the straps. I love the slightly longer straps. I don't know if you're twisting the 2 icords together as directed but make sure you twist less than how you want the straps to look. Once felted, the shorter straps will look more twisted than pre-felted.
hurry on down to the nearest craft store (a.c.moore, michaels...)--they have i-cord makers for about 8 bucks. You could whirl off enough i-cord in probably 5 minutes!
looks great and you will probably have that icord done by now anyway! :)
I was about to give you the opposite advice to Evelyn! With my Sophie I found that I twisted the straps just enough but when they were felted I would have liked them a little more twisted. Oh well, I guess the moral is do what you think is right and have fun felting! Its a fun pattern isn't it?
I second Kerstins zippered bag advice. The loose fibres can really do a number on the pump. Felting is way fun, replacing a washer pump sucks. (Not to mention that having a broken washing machine in a house with kids rates an emergency of the highest order). I learned this felting lesson the hard way. Remind me to show you my $300 clogs sometime.
That is a great color! Can't wait to see it. Its going to be a great bag.
