monkey arms and monkey ears

Doesn't ava's first sleeve look a little long to you??

uh oh.

Oh yeah, all the way down to the first knuckle on my fingers. So, out it goes. I'll be ripping back to the last increase to shorten it (and narrow it - as long as I'm ripping...). Luckily, I have yet to start the second sleeve, so I can just knit it once to match this one. Once again, sew-as-you-go saves the day! Still, I hate taking out seams and reknitting. Aaaargh!

To cheer myself up, I started another piece of the fiesta tea set. Here's the sugar bowl blocking.

any UVa fans out there?

Just be glad that you found it before you knit the 2nd sleeve! Ava is such a classicly beautiful cardigan, I love the colour..

How about them Hoos??? Without dating myself horribly, when I was at UVA I wore orange and navy striped *leg warmers* heheh! I miss Christmas at Tommy's house and The Boar's Head Inn, how about you?

Hello,
I was wondering if you were going to make the embroideries on Ava ? ( maybe you said that somewhere).Bon tricot!

Happy Belated Birthday, Alison!

How odd -- I knit both Ava's sleeves at once and they are also too long. I have to frog both of them. It must be a pattern flaw. I also have to frog a little of the left front as it is too long to match the back.

It is these three frogs that keep me from finishing the last piece -- the right front. Dare I say misery (i.e., me) loves company?

Alison! Pick up a copy of Barbara Walker's "Knitting from the Top." You can try on your sweaters as you knit and decide when to stop or how much to decrease!

I gotta report - finished my Linen Drape project which had been languishing for 2 years! Thanks to the kick from this knitalong. Now just need to come up with a project for the other color I ordered after I started the Linen Drape Along.

Hey, the long-sleeve look is in, right? :) Your sugar bowl looks ab fab, just like all of your other tea set pieces!

Wahoowa! I grew up in No.Va. so I followed the UVa team for a while. I remember one particularly bad season where the students were all in the stands, cheering and drinking, having loads of fun, all while wearing paper bags on their heads. And they had one of those signs where they come up with some slogan where the words start with the network letters that said:

Cavs
Blow
Season

Too funny!

Back to knitting:
Laetitia, I'm just doing a plain version. But I think Nora's doing the whole thing with laces and embroidery/intarsia and everything. That right, Nora? It is nice to hear that we've run into the same problem. ;0)

Class of '02 :)

Wahoowa! Class of 1997! God, I miss Charlottesville. Too bad I wasn't a knitter then-how perfect to knit while lounging on the Lawn between classes!

Is it too late to join in on the tea party? I'd love to knit along as well. Yours is coming along great!

another tip: if the sleeve that is too long is OK from the top you do not have to frog the whole thing.
If the sweater has some kind of edging you shoud proceed as follows:

Decide how many cm you want to shorten it. For ex it should be 5 cm shorter. If there are 20 rows/10 cm, count 10 rows after the edging cut yarn on following row and pick up stiches one by one. Reknit the eding from top down.

If there is no edging, just cut the yarn and bind off stiches.
