The countdown is on. Each day we take away another sticker and the boys can count how many days are left until their birthday. On the morning of their birthday, they can take down the two birthday stickers and wear them. They are really obsessed with birthdays nowadays. They've even been known to make pretend birthday cakes out of pots and pans and yell 'happy birthday' to anyone who enters the room. Wanna see the video?

We had a three month countdown for Liv's birthday. We made approx. 90 paper dolls and hung them up around the kitchen area. Every morning, one boy (we alternated, of course) got to take down a doll. Good thing she came a week early 'cause I was wondering how I'd explain her royal lateness to a four year old and a two year old. Good luck with the potty training!
two boys and a potty--good luck with it. It'll be messy for a bit and then suddenly it's over and all is well again.
I remember having a little "we're done with diapers" celebration when it was all over. At least it's summer and pants are optional.
Birthdays coming up, how fun! Potty training although slightly less fun is another big landmark isn't it? Good luck with both..
Video made me smile. Busy little guys aren't
they : )
OOps forgot ...After the map stickers in NYC, and now the boys countdown. I really think you are the sticker queen ; ) Have you checked out scrapbook stores.
What cuties! Good luck with the potty, and have fun celebrating.
Good luck with the potty, but be warned about the Living Room Nick Jr. watching (which is what we had been doing for awhile). Ian finally did his bowel movement in the potty while watching TV. Two days later he went into the living room, while the potty was next to the bathroom and proceeded to poop on the rug. I think he's still not sure what was wrong about it :)
While my first two trained pretty easily, I was hugely impressed with the effiency with which we trained Owen. We used a timer and he sat on the potty every 15 minutes. We lived by the timer. :) He was trained within a week. Good luck. Diapers suck.
I am going to need to try this and all of the suggestions mentioned because I found out I need to potty train my daughter before she starts preschool in the Fall. I was going on the "when she's ready she'll do it herself" theory which isn't going to fly. Oh, and I have a second baby on the way right about the time that school starts... can you say regression? I don't know why I am even going to bother. But I feel like I need to give it a try. What kind of potty presents do you have? I've been using stickers so every time my little one does go she says she gets her stickers (and doody hasn't even entered the potty realm - only peepee thus far)... it's just getting her to stop what she's doing to tell me she needs to go so we can make a potty visit instead of me saying "okay it's potty time".
What a great video...and a priceless picture! You know it's destined to be seen by one of his future girlfriends!!! :)
We had a pee-pee in potty party after Diva did the number one.
BUT....
When they do the number two... it's like the second coming of Christ I tell ya!!!
(BTW, we had a poo-poo in the potty party for that one too!)
Is their b-day on the 16th?!? Diva's b-day is on the 16th!
Too funny, Rose! Thanks for the suggestions everyone. We're just starting out. The boys aren't really into stickers unfortunately. They pull them off their shirts and mutilate them in about 3 seconds. So they're not much of a motivator. We do use stickers for when they "try" but don't manage to make anything in the potty. For presents I went to a couple of party stores and got tiny party favor sorts of things - little cars, whistles, plastic dinosaurs, boucy balls - for like 99cents each. I got some crepe paper and "wrapped" each one up loosely, so they can really open it when they get it.
... Sorry to turn this into a potty party message board, but I have a question; a friend of ours is training her little one currenly, and the present thing sounds good... but how do you stop them from saying they have to go every 5 minutes just to get a present?
I think my favorite part of the video was the "practice" blowing out of the candles across the pot lid. Quite adorable. It sounds like you have lots of fun things going on over at your house!
:)
I love that picture of them on the potty. Your slice-of-life pictures are always so fun. Good luck with the potty training! Once they get over the "newness" of having to go in the potty, it'll be all downhill. Captain Destructo went from diapers to undies really quickly after he went in the potty a couple of times. Once he saw that it was easy to go in the potty, he preferred it to the diaper.
You have the greatest ideas! Good luck with the training. They'll be going in no time. Love that birthday countdown idea!
you know, sometimes I wish I could watch tv on the pot. sometimes shows are that bad, and sometimes i am just lazy!!
